Help at a total loss!!!

I have NO fashion sense and it is showing up in my lack of decorating too. This is the very short version as it has taken me some time to finally get this to post. Our main exterior door opens into the kitchen and this door is next to the laundry room doors, which are next to the basement door. I recently was surprised with this bay window from my parents, which is directly across from all the doors and brick wall. Nothing is finished as nothing I have tried is coming together. I won't even tell you how many times and different colors I have painted these doors. My original idea was the brick wall/black doors would be a "focal" point, but now the bay window has totally thrown me off. (It was a surprise from my parents.) I am open to any and all suggestions. Yes my husband got cement on them so they need to be redone anyways, so I am open to changing the color here too. If they stay black I think it would look better with the trim around the doors and at the top black? Anyway, thinking now of even white washing the brick? What in the world would you do with all these different doors as far as paint color? I attached a picture of the cabinets and the wall color is Behr Bavarian Cream.I am desperate to get these doors and wall done once and for all, and for now the ugly green floor stays. :( I am also thinking about painting the stain glass in the windows a different color. Help I am paint color challenged.

I have a feeling that the bay window should be the focal point to this area, not the doors and foyer wall. I'd do white doors, whitewashed brick. Then you get open and airy feeling entrance, some great texture with the brick and not overpowering.

Oh thank you! I was totally thrown once the window went in, and your description is just what I am trying to achieve.

PS- I love the stained glass and wouldn't repaint it!

Replacing it with a new door will make it look better.

    I agree.

Thank you for replying, do you mean replace the black doors? If that were possible I sure would replace most everything here, like the whole house and start over. :) We don't have the funds for a new door, painting is the only means at this time, but I like to dream, so what kind of door, and what colors would you paint all these doors?

I agree with what every single person said. Please don't forget to post the result, I love that part.!!!!

I agree painting the interior doors white, but I am going to disagree with painting the main entrance door white. I think it and the muntins should be black. Yes, the bay window is a focal point…on that side of the house, but a black door will also improve the entry look and relate to the” leaded" glass in in the window.

I do agree the before and afters are my favorites. Good thing I have some pressure on me now, since it's been almost a year of it looking like this. :0 I will be sure to send in the results, even though I have never whitewashed before, but first I have to figure out how to remove the rest of the black paint. I have never submitted anything like this before, and was nervous to do it, but I was totally and utterly brain dead on what to do.

Interesting thought on that door, as you can see at one time I painted it black, my husband really liked it, but the rest of us were not so sure, but now that I think about it that was before the window went in. Hmm.

You can just use Kilz over the black paint and then re-paint the doors white. I think there are also a number of You Tube videos on how to whitewash brick.

I did look up some youtube videos on whitewashing and other methods, they always make it look so easy. :) I am not sure my husband will like that idea at all. I did have one idea, but my husband said, "I don't think you can do that." It is to paint the 2 doors the same color as the wall so that they kind of blend in, and then painting that white molding around the brick wall and the top black too.? I would add some wreaths to the black doors and maybe a short valence type curtain on the main door? I just don't know that I will love all that white in one area. I love the white trim next to the wall color, but not sure about that door that I started to paint white, I have mixed feelings. I had felt that when that main door was black that it was just too "formal" I guess, that is silly as I painted the laundry room doors black, but I felt at the time it worked with the brick. UGG. I just can't take yet another repaint, I have to get this right so I can stop spending money on things that I keep repainting over, and move on to getting the rest of the kitchen done. Also I think part of it is the stark contrast of the black and white?

No valance, no wreaths; there's already too much going on in this space. With three doors in close proximity, you need to simplify, not add stuff.

Frankly, I'd probably paint the walls white, as well.

Or maybe leave the brick and paint the walls in this area an analogous color...

I like the the "analogous" idea! Only problem is the bay is your focal, no way around it. The 3 doors need to be the same color. Hard to REALLY tell how much color your space can handle with your pictures... the brick and wall color will tie into the glass too. Anf the white doors will tie into the window trim. Can your room handle a two tone?

I'm not sure where the cabinets come in... the kitchen? Save those for last, one thing at a time and then make a decision from there.

Wow, there's a lot going on in a small space! I agree with Grover and would paint the interior doors white, I'd follow Judy's idea to paint the exterior door black. On top of that I suggest you paint the brick (not wash) the same colour of the walls, to calm things down even more. I like the yellow, it suits your bay window. Perhaps Grover could do a visual?

Thank you so much, I read that last year and, again early this
morning. :) It was this and all the beautiful black doors that I saw on
Pintrest last year as to why I originally painted it black, as I would
of NEVER of thought to. I have to be honest, it just isn't us. It felt
too formal/modern and just didn't look right in our space. I love the
look in all these elegant and VERY beautiful homes that I see here and
other places, but that is not what we have here. :)

    To be
honest this is the craziest designed ranch with high ceilings with
ledges here and there, standard ugly oak trim, oak fireplace, and
standard honey colored cheap doors, and ugly gold handles on all the
doors. (Just to name a few.) It's in every single room, except for the
kitchen now. The kitchen has 2 sky lights right above that area, with 2
extra long windows on the wall right next to the big bay window, with a
smaller window over the sink area. It gets a ton of light. When I did
break down and paint the trim white, because of the new window, we loved the look of it, but that black door just didn't fit. I did
not like the yellow wall, white trim against the black, it didn't look
right with the rest of the room, and honestly kind of reminded me of a
bumble bee. I don't want to change out the wall color, as we do like it,
and it wasn't that long ago that I painted it.

    I felt at one
time the black around the brick worked, because I really was trying to
incorporate having a black door, and it gave it that farm/country feel
we are trying to achieve, then the window came. To be honest my
husband did not buy the right shade of brick that I wanted, but that's
another story. It is a farm/country/cottage/ cozy laid back kind of look
we are trying to get. In fact to be honest the true focal point
at least for us, is the new in ground pool that we see from the windows
next to the bay window. We actually bought the house not because we like
it, but for the location and the land. Sorry for that long winded
post, but I do appreciate every and all suggestions.

Again I truly appreciate each and every suggestion. I did think about painting the brick, but first my husband likes it, and second we don't have a lot of money so most all of our "remodeling" come just from changing out the paint colors. I don't want later on down the road when I decide for a change and paint the wall a different color be stuck with a yellow brick wall, Oh MY!! :)

Testing, I understand. Best of luck and enjoy your pool! :)
