Thanks for the advice Judy, the love seat is against the wall because to the right of that is the door to the master bedroom. Moving the love seat would make the space tight and in the way of the bedroom door.

I definitely want some color for the area rug, I'm not a huge fan of the "warm tones".

Janet -bc I can't see that doorway to the bedroom, I have to ask - is it possible that you could pull that loveseat 2.5 tiles forward? it would be in line with that table/ shelf next to the tv. You could walk behind the loveseat to get into the bedroom. sorry if this is redundant. hard to tell from the pic. once the arrangement is a conversation area, it will be easier to find rug to pull it in.

If you look at the first picture you can somewhat see the door opening on the right.

I should say that we are planning on getting a large entertainment center very soon that's going to replace that very small TV stand ( we have a cathedral ceiling). Honestly I would rather not move that love seat, we are definitely happy with the current "traffic flow" in the house.

I appreciate the advice Judy, and nope you're seeing it correctly this house has a lot of "warm tones" even the walls are a beige/brown seems like that's the previous home owners favorite color. I'm OK with the wall color for now down the line we will consider painting but I want to work with what I have currently. I really want to incorporate some color in that room so I'm trying to stay away from brown,ivory, white etc. I'm in Florida so I'm looking to add more vibrate colors in the room, help me out :-) I need some color in my life.

Also I see what you're saying about moving the love seat up and I originally did that but for our family the 2 dogs, kids, etc. it just didn't work since everyone seems to "play" in the middle. So I'm trying to make it work with this configuration, which I know may not look the best.

Photoshopped items in a room seem very helpful... dark teal just to see. Like you said: everything basically light-medium warm -- where's the contrast or interesting shapes, etc.... so I thought teal might 'set' coffee table, like I posted, on a 'stage'.... add your pillows of patterns galore!! :) Any art yet? How are you in Florida??

I like the teal rug however we have 2 dogs one is white and the other is brown, with that teal rug all I see is white fur on it :-) so I'm looking for a patterned rug to hide the unavoidable dog fur.

Sealife's benefit in one way could be if you want any softness at window - I wonder about the soft blue in Sunbrella-practical, or semisheers.... ah....

Janet, idk which is hard to picture and decide - a metal finish? which can be thought about early - cause it can represent a color you want. Maybe cinnamon is alotaa color, idk. What else is in your home? Are cabinets dark wood, white?

The irregular contrasts nice with multiple of square tiles... Fla. colors... :)

Here is a bright, fun rug with a Florida vibe (I'm about 60 m east of Tampa). This would give you lots of options for your color story.

When I first looked at your space it looked very busy without having a rug in place . It's due to tiling ( grout lines) and buttoned upholstery. Second thing that I noticed is that they are same colour, very blend , so really need to ad colour but at same time calm it down a bit. So for that reason I Am suggesting plain rug instead of pattern. If you move your two seater close to the large sofa you will still have enough room to go to the bedroom instead going around the two seater. Nice side table in between two sofas would complete the look.
You have to make sure that rug is large enough to cover the whole area .rug is never to large.

Here are some pillows from Wayfair that would tie in with a colorful Fl vibe. A plain color rug will not give you the options that a multicolor one will, but you can always use other colors with a plain one, say tied into a piece of art. Only you know what you are comfortable with. On Houzz we tell you what your room suggests to us. Very individualistic - so use your own judgement.

Do these provide any inspiration? I could see going either pop of color on the rug or going neutral/ texture for the rug and pops of color throughout room. are you considering indoor/outdoor rug so it can be easy to clean any doggy hair?

@oskuee I get what you're saying about the area looking too busy and I'm not opposed to a plain rug, however my issue is what I've mentioned, dog hair; it's less noticeable in a pattern so that's why I'm looking for a patterned rug with some color.

@oskuee, I wish I could shave them ..LOL And of course I have a white dog and a brown (chocolate ) dog both are about 60 lbs. and they are not making my living room rug buying easy. There has been some great ideas but as of now I'm still not sure what's going to work color or pattern wise.

The border is very limiting, as is the loveseat (the bane of good seating arrangements.) Try it in the master; maybe at the foot of the bed. Then center the sofa on the tiles and see if the border will allow a rug that extends at least a foot or more past the two ends of the sofa. I like them large enough to slip under the front 1/3 of the seat part and all the way under the chaise.

Yeah it's difficult to find the "right" arrangement and enough seating, unfortunately the love seat in the bedroom is not going to fit and we truly need the extra seating in the living room.

Can you move TV on the loveseat wall and place the sofa opposite so it runs with the lengthy side of the border? Then put the love where the sofa is now. Worth it to move the TV connections in order to make the room function well.

Wish I could do that but the back of the wall where the love seat is located is not very big especially for our 70"inch TV (I blame the husband for the huge TV...lol) it leaves me with very limited seating arrangements. I should I also say that the room is very open, on the other side is the dining room so basically the dining room and living room is one big room.

Any suggestions for coffee tables; should I go with a round, square or rectangular ottoman in a particular style ?

I found an article by Design sponge that recommended a dog friendly rug be low pile, indoor/outdoor, darker color and small scale pattern. Can you move sectional over toward the love seat and put loveseat on other side (by sliding door) - so furniture can be centered in the tile border? Speaking from experience, a Roomba is great on dog hair. I would recommend two soft ottomans in front of sectional since the open space is play area.

@bmallon- Great suggestion and info. have the fur kids definitely makes things more challenging :-) the more I'm reading everyone's suggestions I realize that I shouldn't go crazy with a patterned rug and risk making the area too busy.
