Wood look tile would be my vote.

What is the look of the tile in the kitchen? I mean, you're having us compare a known entity to an abstraction...

If you were dealing with something decorative like, say, Talavera tile, then I would do a dividing line in the doorway, as of a smaller matching mosaic, and then continue the tile in the living room. Otherwise, there's no reason you can change styles.

Try a wide oak plank stained in a color that works with the wood tone living room tile in the spot where it splits.

Put in a decorative strip that ties the two together as a transition and choose whatever you like. Just keep it the same across the rest of the floor.

If you pick the wood look, you can just run a piece or the whole floor sideways to the door opening for the same effect.
