Should this half wall go?

We are planning an update to our living room which is right off of our kitchen. I want to float the sofa in the center of the room but with the half wall it leaves this strange walkway behind. The half wall serves no purpose really and we've got a reasonable cost to remove it BUT I just can't visualize how it will look all open with kitchen table floating now and no wall. Any thoughts? Photos? Advice please?

Without seeing the rest of the room, I think the wall could stay but the loveseat go. It reminds me of a timeout spot. It appears too far away and at an awkward angle from your TV. What about a small bookcase in that spot?

We have an almost identical layout except for the lovely area with your tv. As part of a first floor renovation (still underway) we removed the half wall. It was probably our smallest project, but it had the most dramatic input on opening the space. However, if you take the wall down you need to consider how to address the flooring beneath. We were running new flooring throughout so it wasn't an issue.

Thank you! Yes, our contractor said he would custom make a piece to blend. Won't be perfect but we will eventually replace the entire flooring when we do the kitchen so I'm hoping it won't be too noticeable. Do you have a photo of your space? I'm having a hard time visualizing the floating table and then also the floating couch. Thanks

I would take it down. Then will have more opportunities to put the love seat where ever you want and not feel it must be tucked in where the pony wall is.

Need a better picture showing the entire space. I don't think your sofa is in the right place no matter what. If you beefed up the pony and capped it with your kitchen stone, it could be a serving bar.

I agree that if the wall weren't there, you would naturally float the loveseat, couch, or whatever quite a bit farther forward, onto the rug, within view of the fireplace, etc. That would be a plus on the livingroom side, plus you'd get more decent walking space behind it for going in all directions. Definitely do it!

Sure, if you promise to remember it's a work in progress; my woodwork and mantel won't always be a combination of paint, primer and honey oak! Oh well, half way into this century.

Has contractor talked about how the "interface" with the tile will work? You have two sides to flange up together. I don't think removing the wall is worth it. But guess it is your call. The family room is awkward and TV in that sun room is not working either. Might be better to move the TV to the wall opposite the sun room, then "float" the love seat with its back to the opening to the sun room then another chair would work in the space.
