Its been a hot summer out FW's way (not too far from me) and I think that tree looks rather good! Congratulations!!!

I am curious how this Rio Red will compare to your "Ruby". Did anyone ever get confirmation from Harris as to exactly what cultivar they are calling "Ruby"? From all that I have searched, there is no specific cultivar "Ruby Red" - but rather a marketing group. I am curious to learn!

Molew. I almost forgot but will ask Ruth what cultivar their Ruby is.

Lauren from what I red the Rio is the darkest red of the grapefruits (if enough heat) and one of the sweetest. I guess it will take a year or two until I figure this out. And probably even longer until the fruit is really great. Dreaming about my greenhouse happens earlier then it is planned.

Congratulations Susanne, update us on the fruit from it!

very nice tree. Do you know your rootstock.

That is a lovely tree, Suzanne! I received my young Rio Red citrus liner this afternoon. It is on C-35 rootstock. I hope they grow and thrive for both of us and that we get some lovely looking and tasty grapefruit from them in the future. :)

Has anyone in the 'north' grown container-grown grapefruit that have actually borne a tasty fruit? I tried years ago with Ruby Red, but I don't have a greenhouse, so had to put it in my cool, somewhat dark garage. Fruit never ripened.

Eva that is a great tree. It will get better every year! I can imagine how you look forward to that crop. Do you ever squeeze the grapefruit? They make a wonderful juice!

Dave, I have a ray ruby grapefruit which fruit that is almost ripe. I will let you know when I taste it in the coming months.

LAura how do you know when it is ripe?

Steve just got answer from FW and Rio is on Cuban shaddock.

this link / article describes Ruby Red as "Redblush" -

Curious if this is the same answer as what Harris gives?

Molewacker I will ask but will give them more time for clean up.I think they are still very busy after Irma. Shipping is delayed because of it.
