Weird Remodel Help Needed

I have a 70's bathroom with wall to wall tile. Id like to update it a bit but on a dime, or moreso a nickel.. My idea was to demo all of the tile except for what surrounds the tub and hang drywall. How would i properly join drywall once its butted against the tile?

Ill take your advice. Its truly wall to wall tile as it is right now, so paint is a no go. Theres also tile ceiling that i converted from florescent to led recessed. I dont have a problem with the tile itself, but just that its wall to wall 4x6 tile which makes it look all very dated

You should keep your dime, save your $$, it looks good to me! Someone did a good job! :-)

I agree with the above posters. Unless you're not showing us something very bad -- like some tiles that're coming loose or badly joined corners -- I would not rip out this tile.

If you're looking for a change, I'd say bring it in through your shower curtain and linens /other accessories.

I just hate the builders grade mirror. It was bare when i moved in, so i installed trim around it. Changed the ceiling tiles from the transparent fiberglass tile and instead made them from drywall and installed the overhead LED lamps. And the tiles are all in place but the grout isnt good. Theres a window in the tub area that needs work on its frame. The other thing that bothers me is that the previous vanity was built in to the tile and the previous owner removed it and replace it with a newer one but theres still a hole in the tile where the vanity top was removed

So, tear it all out and start over. 15-20K and it can all be brand new and exactly how you want it to be.

    What mirror?

You must have a lot of free time and want to do something for fun. Check out how to make door (top) tables. Start making those for your family and friends. :-) I am "making" two French door tables. Got 2 French doors free and bought 10 bar stools as table legs, :-) You can also make old doors into swing bench, garden bench.......that should keep you busy until winter. :-)

Just trying to remove the tile can disturb the other tile and loosen it so it really isn't a good idea. Go ahead and change the mirror and then try hanging some artwork on that large span of tile wall to break things up...

The mirror is built into the wall. So removing it would destroy the drywall

That's too much work to fix something that is not broken. If you want to have an easy life, the tip is only fix the things that are broken. Lol

I suggest you post this over on the decorating forum with pictures that show the whole bathroom from different angles not just close ups. They have assisted many people in turning an unloved space into a thing of beauty or at least something you can enjoy until you can afford a new bathroom.

What kind of assumption is that? I own 4, ;)

The inspiration to remodel comes from the desire to sell the house, to boost it's appeal. I don't want to drop 20k on a full remodel that I won't get back from selling. I just wanted to see if there was a way to join new drywall to wall already covered with tile.

You are NOT going to boost its appeal by doing that. You will just make a mess and lower value. You already made it weird by slapping drywall in the drop down ceiling. Don't make it weirder.

Trust me the translucent tile and florescent lighting was no better. The options are very limited due to the ductwork above it.

But if there's no way to pull it off then I won't

Millworkman, lol! I didn't see it at first either. Look again.

You should have had it done right! That's a hack job.

In all honesty - if you are selling, just make sure it is absolutely spotless, no marks in the grout and hang a neutral shower curtain. Maybe put up a couple of pictures with those command hooks so you don't drill in the tile. Your realtor will let you know if you might need to do more or if it is negative...

Good luck! Hope it sells quick!

Milly, what's your idea of doing it right?
