Denita, we did pay cash in installments. We have one small final payment to make. We owned the property before construction. So you are suggesting we get a title company or a lawyer involved to verify the release of liens. I will make inquiries first thing tomorrow. Thank you.

We got lien releases as we went. We owned the land and paid cash. But the final payment we checked to see we had been given all the releases.

There was no closing. No title search. I thought..."that's it?" And so it was.

Yeah, I don't know. I think it might be state specific. We have a deed for the property. The county knows there's a house on it.

You absolutely need a deed -cash doesn't matter. It's not a location specific thing. I also would never own a home without title insurance.

You should already have a recorded deed for the property (land) or you would not have been able to build on it. You might not have a physical copy of it, but it should be recorded with your county. A title company may update it to reflect the house, but it depends on how the original deed was written.

The title company can make sure all liens are released before issuing title insurance.

As said above, call a title company asap.

If you owned the land before the build you should already have a deed, you would have received the deed when you acquired the land.
