It's also most likely not using a wifi band.. But a different radio wave all together such as Zigbee or Redlink or some other custom band.. So don't disable it. It basically needs to be moved and hidden away with the furnace, it's going to control everything and the thermostat itself can be taken anywhere like a remote control.

Whoever installed it also left the wires bare, its all around an ugly installation.. Always hide the wires behind the wall..

Of course once you take it off there is going to be a hole in the wall, so ask if they will repair it.. If not, get you some putty from the local hardware store and float it and paint over it after it dries.. Or you can put a blank wall cover over it.. Whatever you guys feel like you want it to look like.. Or keep the hole if you like the hole-in-the-wall look.

Ahh, so the thermostat is wireless to the blower unit in the attic and the Lennox router is for that communication. Mom said the reason they put it on the wall there is to cover the hole left from the old thermostat.

Oh, no. The Lennox router is wired to the blower unit, and the display/touch panel is wireless to the Lennox router.

It would be hard to imagine someone accidentally putting it there..

It doesn't have to be though that's for sure. It's suppose to be wired directly into the furnace's circuit board and communicate wirelessly with the thermostat.

The thermostat is basically a remote control and probably has no hard wiring, although it may - Pop it off the wall and see if there are any wires.. If not, you can take it to any room and control the temperature from anywhere just like a cell phone.

Lol it looks like mom and dad didn't know what they were asking for unless they really wanted it there. It looks bad in my opinion but to each their own.

I'm curious whether Texas attic heat would have a detrimental effect on the Smart Hub if it was mounted at the blower unit. Ambient heat generally is bad for electronics.

Lennox says to install the Smart Hub near the indoor unit, and they ought to know. The indoor unit contains electronics that have to withstand attic heat also. FYI my Smart Hub is mounted on the wall near the furnace in the basement.

Lennox knows Texas is hot and humid all year long, I'm sure it was apart of the design process for the engineers to design something that performs in these conditions. We have a huge cooling market here in Texas so designing and marketing something that isn't going to work here wouldn't be in their best interest. They know Texas attics are hot.

This is the same dealer who did a system (single speed heat pump with electric strip backup) for one of my neighbor's rent houses (which didn't previously have a central system). He had a bunch of trouble, ranging from the thermostat (not this S30 model) set for the wrong system type (they didn't get it right after a couple return trips so he researched and corrected it himself) to a too-small heat strip NOT what the contract stated (they did that purposely because the wiring was also too small and they had to re-wire when he pinned them down to install the correct heat strip capacity). I warned dad about all that but he went with this dealer anyway, and is happy with the results (thus far). Remains to be seen if the thermostat configuration is or isn't fouled-up ... and I'm not going to mess with it myself.

Make them fix it. That looks atrocious hanging on the wall next to the thermostat. I can not imagine how someone with any common sense could install that hub in a visible area in the home.
