First a couple of questions. Do you have any existing furniture you need to work with? Do you have enough curtain panels for either room?

I do have enough panels for either or. As for the furniture I have some hand me downs from family until I can buy my own, which will be in a few months. They are beige with like an antique look to them. Because I wont be having them for too long, I dont want to base my decor on them, if that makes sense. Thats why Im looking for decor inspiration, also furniture ideas for the living room, i think thats where I want the curtains in.

i will definetely be taking my time in making the place feel like home

The hand me downs sound fine for now. Your curtain panels are fantastic, and a good color palette to work from. If you post pics of your room, we can give you better furniture ideas.

We all need a starting point. If you like the drapery colors and print it seems to offer lots of possibilities. A gray or neutral sofa or chairs, coral pillows or a touch of green in a live plant.

these will be the couches i will be using meanwhile i get new ones, just thought i'll share

i came across this throw pillows, not the best picture quality. but given that the curtains have a lot going on with the design, can these work. or will it be too much?

also i dont have pics of the new place, i will be moving in about 3 weeks. but to give you guys an idea, its an open concept. kitchen is big enough for me to have a small dining table in and the living room would be on the right side, its all open. im thinking i should also incorporate these colors in the kitchen (?) as soon as i move in, i will post pictures

The geometric pillows will work nicely with the curtains. Congratulations on your new place!

The pillows will be great with the curtains. The couches will be fine until you can update. It's good that they area a neutral color. Keep us posted!

thank you all for your input, i will definetely keep you guys posted!

how about curtain rods? i came across these on Sears, thats where the curtains are from

    1st- plated bronze
    2nd- bronze
3rd- they have rubbed bronze, antique copper, silver and pewter

Check out Home Goods, Marshalls or TJ Maxx for curtain rods. The prices are great. I would get brushed nickel finish to match the grommets and look for much simpler finials than the ones from Sears.

can i get away with sage green pillows like these?

    Definitely.

Sure. I would use them in addition to the patterned pillows.

Just wanted to share that my pillows came in!! i wasnt 100% of the colors since in the description it wasnt specific. they are a bit darker than the colors on the curtain, and the one with the pattern is actually beige instead of white but am thinking it still looks good together or no ?

I think they'll be fine. They don't have to match exactly-just coordinate-and it's not like they'll be right on top of each other.

Hey every one! I know its been a while, just wanted to update on the move. In just a few days I will be in my new place (thursday this week) I am sooo excited!!

My husband and I were able to sell the couches my in laws gave us, we will use that money towards new ones once we move in. Hubby is set in getting black leather ones, I sort of agree, we have kids, 7 and 2 year old, so cleaning will be much easier if there are any "accidents". What do you guys think, with the decor I have?

    Thanks

I would buy gray leather couch not black.
Since you have children, maybe a classic brown leather sofa.
Thats what I was thinking, but i dont know if I will be able to convince him lol :(

I have to say that with pets, I like leather too but there are some great fabrics and treatments that resist stains these days. Or try a sofa that includes a washable slipcover such as the Pottery Barn slipcovered line? They are affordable too. I’ve attached a screen grab.

I would steer clear of black leather, it just takes over the whole room unless you do everything black and white.

If you are using the curtains as inspiration black leather is a no. And if your husband thinks that black leather and these curtain panels work, tell him he has lost his decorating voting rights! LOL. If you still go with leather, what about cream or grey leather?

Adi if I were you I would go by myself and preshop the furniture stores and see what is out there, then take Hubby along on a second trip to show him what you think would look nice, and then decide together what will work....take your curtains with you and really think about all the practical uses for the things you see and might select.

I would definitely go with gray leather or a performance fabric. All men want black leather! Black is overwhelming and belongs more in a man cave, not in a family or living room. Try to stay away from anything overly puffy as well. You want something with cleaner lines and, if you can find it, a firm back as opposed to loose pillows, which usually don't hold up very well. Good luck on your furniture hunt!

Hey guys! I finally moved in on Monday. Here are the pictures. I am open to ANY suggestions. Excuse the mess, I still have things to unpack and put away. For now all I am keeping is the curtains, pillows, and the TV stand. I plan on going furniture shopping withing the next few days. I think i finally got hubby on board with going grey for sofa or a sectional (?)

the windows are small, i plan on placing the rods further apart to make them appear bigger
  • 8 years ago
previous owners left the rods in windows, but these are the ones i have. the were suppose to be more of a nickel finish but to my surprise they were not (ordered online) what do you guys think?

There's nothing worse than looking like you tried too hard. The solution is a few somewhat mismatching higher-quality things than a lot of cheap stuff that matches. Repaint in expensive pure white paint and use mounted objects to add color to the walls. Immagine the afterlife when everything is self illuminating. Consider how things would look if they gave off their own light. Could you spend eternity with it?

Remember objects without utility are literally unrecognizable to your brain. That's why those silly wall objects at Home Goods are so tacky. No story, no utility.

I came across a great sofa from IKEA on another thread. Very reasonably priced, slipcovered so you can remove and wash it, and good reviews. What do you think?

It looks just like the English roll arm sofas that I've seen for 4 times the price. Very stylish.
