Is it consistent with codes to build a no-step entry from the garage into the house? (I live in DuPage county, IL, if that matters)

The architects and builders I've talked to look at me as I'm crazy, but I've read about it on-line. I'm actually more concerned about the garage/house doors than I am about the curbless shower (as opposed to 2-4")
