Our home has a beautiful walk out basement, with 8.5' ceilings. We entertain a great deal so we wanted to add a small bar, without impacting our gorgeous view, so I stole a bit of real estate from my husband's workshop to create a small niche in the hallway. The only issue we ran into was that by opening the wall and recessing the cabinets, we were left with a 5" section of bare concrete. Our cabinet maker created a strip of wood to fill the gap and, it's better than carpeting because we can easily remove the fridge if we ever need to service or replace it. It also really helps hide the ventilation grate at the bottom. We're delighted with the results.
