Well the Jr Birdmen and Captain Hawks pins were one of those "enclose 3 box tops and get your very own official pin" things. I think both were comic book characters and/or radio show heroes.

I see a belt buckle of the sliding latch pin type. It is attached to a woven belt. This belt type was standard issue for holding up your pants and yours has an insignia on it that probably indicates which branch of service your father was in.

The single chevron stripe indicates rank. I'd have to look it up, but I think that single stripe is for Private.

There is a medal to the right of the belt buckle that looks interesting.

In the upper right is a small box with the word, Paragon, on it. What's in that?

To linda c - the dog tags were my dad's in WW2, probably just the standard info on them.

These are memorabilia items from childhood and now collectable. This trader is asking $35 to $80 for these pieces.

The trademark, "Captain Hawks Sky Patrol Novelty Company", has expired.

Frank Hawks had an interesting career during the pioneering days of aircraft. He was a premier promoter of aircraft and a self promoter of himself. In the 1940s, there was a popular radio show called "Sky King" and the antics in that show could have been patterned after the real life Pilot, Frank Hawks.

The Sky King story. (I remember listening to this radio show after school. I'd walk the 2 miles from school to home and arrive just in time to tune in to this radio show. I think that it occupied a 15 minute segment and took several segments to finish a story. Many times, the Hero was left in a jam at the end of a segment and you had to tune tomorrow to find out how he got out of it.)

I was also a Sky King listener....and later when the show appeared on TV, an occasional watcher...I had outgrown it by then.

I vaguely remember the "Sky King" TV show with Kirby Grant in the title role.

The ribbon is a US Army WWII Victory ribbon.

The neighbor boy and I and our younger sisters would listen to Sky King every afternoon. We often sent in cereal box tops for decoder rings, etc. I think Sgt Preston of the Yukon played just before or after Sky King. Good shows.
