Where to start on windows

Hello all - my husband and I are beginning the process of building a custom home, and we need to give our contractor some input on what we want (or want to consider) window-wise in order to get a good estimate. We want something reliable, reasonably nice looking (preferable in a dark color, not white), low-maintance, and not unnecessarily expensive (we don't mind paying for quality but do mind paying for a name or the illusion of fancier, or paying more than necessary to accomplish our goals). We're located in the Pacific Northwest, and our house with be a mix of Northwest contemporary and craftsman, style-wise.

My instinct is that fiberglass is probably what we should be considering, but I'm open to other suggestions. Our architect suggested a chat with the local Pella company to get the lay of the land, but I've heard extremely mixed thing has about them and am wondering if there are others I should look at as well. I'd love any help and suggestions!
