They're Here!

My order from Gardino Nursery just arrived not long ago. Aren't they gorgeous?!

Clockwise from upper left: motoskei, ilagiorum, tsangii (formerly odettetae), and verticillata (which was an added surprise by my mother lol). Great sizes and they're so lush and green!

Very nice Brad !!! They look in perfect shape. You got some really nice ones and you will love verticillata, I got some in a trade with Denise and it bloomed the first year.

I had verticillata before and it was sent to me as a cutting. It didn't grow for the longest time, but when it did, it threw out some long vines and two peduncles. Sadly, it died after bringing it inside for the fall/winter, but now I am happy to have it back in my collection.

I took some old coat hangers and put them on verticillata, ilagiorum, and motoskei. I left tsangii to hang down. I may put it in a spare birdcage I have hanging up, but not sure yet.

I'm always impressed with the size and quality of Gardino's plants! They look beautiful....I'm a sucker for motoskei--mine is tough as nails, blooms regularly and grows happily no matter what the conditions...the flowers are bigger and plusher than carnosa and the scent is wonderful....I think you'll LOVE it :-) The bird cage idea for tsangii sounds great---do it!

I'm definitely ordering from them again! Motoskei is one of my favorites. I have a small plant of it already and then I have my new one. I love the leaves! I've seen photos of the flowers and that's partially the reason why I wanted it. I think I might cage tsangii and see how well it does in there. If I can find room to hang the cage up outside in the little porch where I have the other new plants and my other Hoyas.

I commented on this earlier but I guess it didn't go through. Strange. The plants look great, I'm glad they're everything you hoped for! Gardino's never disappoints. I still don't know how they get their plants so green, I wish all my plants were as green as the ones I get from them. I hope yours bloom soon :)

Carolyn, you're welcome! My wish list is growing, too. Keeping an eye on certain ones that are out of stock (cv. Sunrise namely), and hoping to order again in the spring around my birthday.

Tom, I agree! Gardino's has never failed to disappoint! Even though this is only the second time I've gotten anything from them, it's been amazing every time! It's astonishing on how they get their plants so green. It's like The Emerald City. :)

This is why I recommend Gardino's to gardening and Hoya newbies :).

I have a few from them also... Beautiful, full, lush plants you got there, Brad!

Hahaha the emerald city. I agree! I feel like making an order right now. I really want latifolia. I do recommend Gardino's first out of any online nursery. Their plants just look healthier than any other nursery I've ordered from online.

Go for it, Tom! You're way closer to them physically than I am way up here in PA. Another nursery I recommend is Almost Eden Plants in Louisiana. Their plants and service are excellent, too! I used to have latfolia, but it withered away, too. I let it get too dry. Kenejiana, cv. Sunrise, cv. Minibelle, krohiana "Eskimo", limoniaca, and mindorensis are on my wish lists and Gardino's carries them, too. My favorite pubicalyx is on sale, I see (Red Buttons)! If you don't have it, I HIGHLY recommend that one! The flowers are unique and the blooms smell like a Tootsie Pop :).

I just might Brad. I have ordered from Almost Eden once. I got brugmansia 'shredded white' from them. It was a decent size but it hasn't grown well. It's probably my fault haha. I think it hates the heat. But I do love browsing their site and looking at their pictures.

I have royal Hawaiian purple, they're fairly similar I believe. I wonder if they smell the same? But I do like red buttons because I think the flowers are darker. I have minibelle indoors but it hasn't grown much or I'd send you a cutting. I'll probably move it outdoors.

I haven't ordered from them in ages. The last thing I got from them was a Sweet Olive/Osmanthus fragrans, which has the best fragrance of any plant I have ever smelled. Sadly, it didn't last long, but oh, that fragrance!

I have RHP, Pink Silver, and Red Buttons. All are great, but I have only experienced the blooms of Red Buttons in person and that was a few years ago. Now, my small plant developed a peduncle only recently, so I am very excited about it!

Some of them got their first watering yesterday since arriving. A few look like they're starting to have roots poke out the bottom or have a good amount of roots, so hopefully I will have blooms soon (if this heatwave keeps up), or in the spring. Still haven't put tsangii in the birdcage yet. I have nothing better to do today, so I just might toy around with that look. I have a white one that's rounded, and a brass/gold one that's square with a pagoda style top. Hmm, which one?

Here's tsangii in the one birdcage I have. I think this one is the winner.

What crime did the hoya commit to end up behind bars? Hahaha... I crack me up. Seriously, that will be so beautiful in the birdcage as it grows over the years. And it's a very cool idea. I might need to visit some second-hand and antique places around here to find unique places for my hoyas.

I just received my first order from Gardino's in ages and the hoyas were so big and beautiful I sat right down and left a "love letter" in Gardino's comment section. :)

Go for it! They can be space savers and aesthetically pleasing. Plus, I like how it makes some people stop and look and say: "That's different!"

Aren't they a great company to deal with?! I can't wait until spring to do another order. I mean, my first order from them was in February some years ago, and they included a heat pack, but still, I know most plants will be waking up around then and ready for the outdoor growing season :).
