LOL at your title. ....I don't know, that June of yours is looking pretty good for this time of year. And, yes, that Begonia is bringing some great color.

sandyslopes..the title's a joke for the oh so serious hopelessly devoted hosta lovers on this forum (I'm one too)..I love June hostas but that begonia has been pretty everyday since I bought it a few months ago..

Begonia go together nicely with hosta :-) But I definitely need a second June for shade. Yours look wonderful!

thanks Karin..I have a lot of Junes..of course you need more than one haha..your begonia will be going inside right?..mine is a tuberous variety and I want to save it..will be sneaking it in with my other delicate plants..the total keeps increasing..trying to keep my husband from noticing..

Yes, the begonia needs to overwinter yes. I still have to check how this is best done. There are a lot of new varieties with beautiful leaves, I think I need more of them :-) I don't have a husband, but my excuse would be that other women buy a pair of Manolos or a fancy handbag for the price I pay for a year's new hostas! And as long as we are able to do the gardening I see no problems with increasing quantities:-)

I've thought (and said) the same thing!..about NOT spending money on shoes, etc so that what I spend on plants isn't extravagant haha..if we ever shared a house you wouldn't be able to walk thru the garden..would be full of plants out to the street!!..

What a nice life this would be, a house and garden full of plants and someone who understands the situation,lol...even my cat sometimes seems to think that I'm buying too many plants and that his part of the garden is getting smaller from year to year :-)

Actually my husband is terrific..he's a tremendous help..I couldn't manage without him..but he thinks we could get by with fewer plants and mentions it occasionally haha..I tell him "you're right dear" but then I see a plant I want and..oh well..I love plants :-)

Begonia could be another addiction, Dave. But inside I have even less room for plants than in the garden.

I grow a lot of begonias but I've cut back on how many go inside when it gets cold. They do need light and will drop leaves until they get accustomed to inside. I bought lots of tuberous ones this year which are still going strong. I even somehow just had a canna pop up in the last few weeks and it may bloom yet this year! Don't know how that happened since I don't have any canna this year. It's super hot here this past week record temperatures in the 90's. I also bought lots of elephant ears and caladium which are magnificent. Those I will try and save.

my neighbor grows a lot of tropicals and annuals..I love the effect..so I started and now I can't stop..I have everything you mentioned (probably not as many as you have) and also bananas and curcumas..

Plants, and gardens, are definitely an addiction!

Wish I could find more room for elephant ears and caladiums, but they have to go inside in winter and that is too big a problem...But I grew this Plecthrantus among my hostas this year and it added a lot of color...

Definitely adds color..we're still up and it's 1 AM again!..spent a lot of the day watering..maybe tomorrow some work that shows..I don't mind watering..great when the plants perk up..but I look around and still have unfinished projects....

A garden is never finished...while working outside I always get new ideas...We have rain and cold predicted for the rest of the week, that's going to put an end to gardening holidays. So I will lean back and read a little and relax...got the 'Field Guide to Hostas' from Zilis and found no time for it during summer.

Well somebody should have told me this when I started gardening. Lol. The only real garden flower that I have is small, my Hostas. Trying to make my entire yard beautiful for one year is a task I've never completed. Well, I have a plan for next year. This winter I'll be planning for next year's Spring planting, again!

I recently dug up a bunch of large hostas, tossed them in the yard waste and planted a half dozen Cheyenne Spirit coneflowers. Going to be a lot prettier up there now. The hostas were all volunteers and blocking the view of montana Aureomarginata and Blue Mammoth. So now I'll have great coneflowers surrounding mA and Blue Mammoth. Should be quite a spectacle.

Cathy - LOL - I've already started planning for next year... feel like I can hardly wait for spring already!

Musky - sounds good... sometimes we have to make those 'editing' decisions.

A friend has around 900 hostas in pots and to be honest, the sight was a little boring...This year he mixed them with his collection of coneflowers, sedum and anemone japonica and it looked gorgeous...not to mention hundreds of butterflies that were attracted every day...so I also planted a few together with sun loving hostas Avocado, Celtic Uplands and Irish Luck...looking forward to next year :-)

I saw a definition of gardening as "moving piles around"..the definition of MY gardening is "moving piles AND plants around" lol...

What would you do if there is nothing left to do or to change in your garden? For me winter is very hard and a life without garden is unthinkable...I have no other hobby that gives me the same inner peace and strength...yoga and reading are ok in winter, but nothing compared to the joy of gardening...

Well I've actually started some of my next years garden early. I was planting Begonias but planted Impatients by mistake. Couldn't throw them away so I'll plant them in bigger pots and keep them inside over winter. My Hostas seeds haven't sprouted yet.

Oh. I didn't know they were Begonias. I save all seeds from my plants. I've been trying to start some red stemmed Begonias for my sister but I can't find them. Didn't know these were begonias also. Thanks for the ID.
