Yes, a quince (so not a citrus). Quinces can be large, misshapen looking fruit.....kind of a cross of an apple with a jumbo pear in appearance.

I was also wondering if it's ripe? They seem to love this year but I also heard there not ready till October.

Probably a Cooke's Jumbo. Makes great jams and jellies....less wonderful for baking. Poached quince is really good, though.

Yes, you can also use the flowering types for jams and jellies but the fruits are smaller and less inclined to develop. They are a separate plant altogether.

Late September is the typical time when they are harvestable. Since you can't eat them raw, if not not overly ripe is not a huge concern.

Thanks for everyone's help yeah they are not small what so ever, extremely large and I have huge hands and there bigger than my hands. Bigger than a water bottle as an idea.
