hmm... I always take excess plants to the library. I just tell the front desk and leave them in a box with a "free" sign.

I dunno what's causing the excess suckering in your case, but I'd remove the suckers/toss them if unwanted and then look into why they were suckering so you can avoid it in future.

Tossing the less healthy leaves will really help. Guilt might occur... but it cuts down on stress.

I have way too many plants also. Everyday, I try to toss a couple. Eventually, the numbers will come down, at least until I go crazy again!

As for suckering, there could be a number of causes including plant stress. Genetics play a central role also. Sometimes its just the nature of the plant.

Are the suckering plants possibly trailers? If so it would be a mistake to remove all of the suckers. If not, well as it has been stated remove them.

Are they growing in the terrarium also? Maybe that contributes to the suckering. My thought is,,,,,,in the wild this is their way of insuring they will go on. They don't grow in perfect rosettes in the wild! Just suggestions!!!! Rosie

Minis and semis have the mini trailing Saintpaulia species in their background - so it is really easy for them to remember a suckering mode.

Generally - stress and genetics. If you stress the plant by some slack in culture - it goes into vegetative propagation mode - means suckers like no tomorrow. Some plants are more prone to it - and sometimes they are so bad - try to acquire a different clone of the same variety from a different source.

I had a really good Magnolia - from Harmony Greenhouses - and I lost it. Got a same variety from somebody's else- and it is a sucker factory.

These are all minis and semi-minis, I believe. :-)
