Your plants are seedlings, you will never have to worry about rootstock suckers. We refer to suckers when they sprout from the rootstock of a citrus tree that is grafted. I would not remove anything from your seedlings, they will need all the leaves they grow to survive.

Watch it for a while. It might me a second (nucellar) seedling tree. If so you can divide the two and have two trees.

Thanks silica - if it is the case, how would i go about doing that? Would it have its own root that i could dig out and plant into a different pot?

If it is a nucellar seedling tree it will have its own roots. Separating the two is really very easy to do, even for a first time try. The extra large container your little seedling is growing in, is way to large and possibly could have a high probability of causing your seedling trouble. While the seedlings are still small you might dig around the plants and move the trees with the attached soil into a smaller container.

Perhaps it might be the picture making the pot look big. In reality it is about 3 inches in all directions. Would that still be too big? Thanks for the help
