Yes it does. Method 1. Just water it enough in the morning and transplant it in the evening, introduce them to the new soil and water it enough after planting. Method 2. Just dig out the soil 1 feet around the root and add manure based soil and water it it'll thrive in a week. many times I have brought them live even after it died, all I do is just add new manure based soil. I'm not sure I understand Method 2 ; are you talking about not digging the entire plant out, just substituting the soil?

Yes, Method 2 is just substituting the soil. The reason is the top soil may have toxic by any weed control, pesticide or any other. Some times the soil do no have any nutrients.
