It depends on the plant :-) Some (most?) plants are very adaptable to being moved in fall while others would be best left until spring.

I have been moving herbs and stella de oros. it is the herbs that i am mainly concerned about.

I think most herbs would be okay with being moved now, but if the heat comes back next week, you may need to water them. October is almost here and that's generally really great weather for moving many kinds of plants here in our climate. This week's cooler, wetter weather (assuming the rain didn't miss y'all up there) makes for some nice transplanting conditions.

1. Thanks Dawn, Then I can complete my project. I am making my flower/herb garden out front smaller. As I age I find that weeding is getting to be too much. I weeded this year and afterwards I saw all these huge blank spots, mulched, and weeds came back up. Especially fighting bind weed that is taking over my entire flower bed, heading now to my artemisias. I feel that this winter, unless it freezes, I will have to water. I took out all of my irises, almost. They look so ugly after they bloom, but my what a beautiful yard I had. People would drive by and slow down to look. Then I planted honeysuckle, lacy vine, and trumpet vine along the fence, but there is too much shade. due to shade our back lawn died and so we get a few weeds, strawberry runners, and moss, just not the pretty moss that grows 3 or 4 inches tall, so I added more flower beds for ferns and hostas and don't seem to have to weed much. also been killing the lamium that grew in the forest after reading that it takes over and kills plants, and in front I had to kill another plant that kills everything. forgot its name; it was tri-colored plant that was so beautiful.
