Yes, they can form at different times, at least for me they do. While my sasanquas already have rather small flower buds, I doubt mine will be opening blooms soon though. The flower buds are too small compared to other years and some tend to bloom closer to Christmas.

As for the lack of buds, there is no telling if your shrub is just producing flower buds at weird times due to being planted this year. Maybe the wholesaler had the plant blooming earlier than now, later than now, etc. On year 1, bloom times may be off. Just keep giving it TLC and cking for flower buds.

I hope you get some flower buds eventually as the season for sasanquas is just starting. Knock on wood! ;o)

Still no buds as of this morning.. very strange !

I noticed the tag said they were "born" about 1.5years ago so i guess they are still young and not consistent yet, i just am doubting that i am going to see any flowers this winter now.

Does the label say when to expect blooms? If early in the season, you should be starting to see flower buds (not necessarily blooms though). If mid-season then you may have to wait more (1 month or more).

Which variety did you get?

With a plant that young, it may have been disbudded, so that the plant would put its energy into growing, rather than flowering. Or it may have been kept in a spot with too much shade for buds to form.

OTOH, if it's a spring bloomer, buds may yet form. My advice is to expect no blooms, and then you will not be disappointed, but could be pleasantly surprised.

I got Bonanza sasanqua. Today I noticed a few buds but they defenitly did prune it down a little, not sure why because it's not like it grows a foot a year.

I agree, I'll plan on no blooms and hope I get a couple surprise blooms! Ha.

There you go! Hee hee hee! Bonanza is It is an early season bloomer but the wholesaler had it blooming late.
