Need rug, coffee table, side table, drapes

I am trying to create a soothing neutral living room. Wall paint is Sherwin Williams Latte. We are happy with the current furniture and layout as it is very functional. Room is about 16x25. I lean a bit minimal, not much on walls, some color but not too much. Love a lot of texture. Any ideas for rug, coffee table, side table for between chairs, and drapes. (Current rug and table are terrible and just placeholders, never meant to be permanent!) Thanks for your help!!!

    Another view, with better lighting.

    Anyone?

Hi! I have similar taste to you - neutral with texture. I would get some white/linen curtains on those windows to bring a light neutral to frame the pretty windows. A round wood coffee table and textured rug. The chairs you have don't white match each other so I think in order to pull it all together, you can use throw pillows in complementary colors.

The picture above be fireplace is nice however too big for the space. There's an opportunity to compliment the fireplace rather than distract from it. Maybe a round mirror?

You have a pretty space, best of luck!

I think you would be happier and the space would be more functional if you flipped the room: TV on the wall over the sideboard (if itt's longer than your current console) and chairs facing it with backs to the door.

I agree the art over the fireplace is too large, and the art across from the window is oddly placed.

Thank you Mandi and Grover. I see what you mean about the picture over fireplace being too large and fighting with it. It seems so obvious now that you mention it, but I never would have thought of it on my own, so thank you! For fun, I moved the clock that was over the tv over to the mantle...too small? Grover, you are so right about the opposite wall being the best place for the tv, but we want to be able to see outside while sitting and watching tv. So that's a design compromise we had to make. The door next to the tv is to a screen porch that has another access, so it's not used too often. Thanks for taking the time to help me!

Yesss! Love that clock! Maybe try hanging it an inch or two higher on the wall, it'll make a difference. Even just how you have it already feels lighter. Here's a diagram that has helped me in the past.

The space will change feeling quite a bit once you get a different rug. I'd go for something in a hue you like with tons of texture - not so much a design (like circles). The curtains will soften the windows and tie in the rug.

I would go calm silver/gray or calm green from rug.

    I had to do it.

Dayum, you mean I have to put everything back where it was? Well, at least get something wider to put under the TV. It looks really top heavy; not a good look.

    Groveraxle nailed it!!

Mandi..thank you for that diagram of how to decorate above a mantel. I am going to hang the clock higher and follow your diagram as much as possible. Such an easy change and it made such a difference!

Celerygirl, thank you for those awesome pictures. I love both of them. Do you think I should leave the smaller windows behind the couch drape-free? Or put the same drapes there, also?

As always, thanks for taking the time to help me.

Grover, wow, looks fantastic! Love what you did with the photos. Much as I love my gallery wall, I think what you did looks better and more balanced. I'm going to copy that idea, and definitely agree the tv needs a new heavier base...my eye is so used to seeing what I have, that I can't see the obvious faults until someone points it out, so thank you!

Har to tell from photos, but the lights on fireplace are too close to the ceiling. You may not be able to move the without major wall repair so I suggest very low wattage bullbs for mood lighting.
I meant the up lights above the door and on other side of the door, not the recessed lights

I made some changes, but still not done. Thoughts and ideas? As I said earlier, the walls look green in the photos, but are SW latte.

Another picture of the changes made so far....

You're getting there. The mantel is much improved with shorter pieces there. The rug looks great.

I'd like to see the seating moved a bit closer together. I'd move the sofa forward a bit so there's less space between it and the chair, and move the coffee table 18" away from the couch. Still need a longer console under the TV. Looks like you can't go much longer between the curtains and the door, but the TV absolutely should not hang over the ends.

The wall behind the chairs still needs a bit of work. The art is hung too high. Remove the four frames from around those gold rectangular things (mirrors?) over the chest and add them to the other frames.

I didn't move your sofa, but I did move your frames. I would make a grouping on the floor or on the wall with paper templates, then center the whole arrangement behind the chairs.

I would not have any frame extend any higher than the top of those gold thingies.

I would also eliminate one of the end tables. Either get one bigger table or move the chairs closer together so they can both use the same table.

Grover, thanks for the feedback. I agree about the photos... (project for tomorrow!) What style coffee table and end table should I look for? I'd like to stay away from ones that are too traditional, but I'm unsure what would coordinate well.

Moved the couch forward by 12 inches ..better?
Since I moved the couch forward, there's a lot more space on the other side of the room.

Two coffee tables from Crate & Barrel:

Hi! Late to the party, but you have an amazing room (those windows!) and I like the changes you've made so far. Great rug selection; color and style is great with the room. On small detail on the drapes... can the rod extend out any further? It would be great for them to be at least another 6 inches wider on each side so the drapes can hang a little straighter and not cover up any of the actual window. It's best to keep the maximum view possible :-)

Mantel is looking better and I like grover's mockup of the gallery wall. I think you're close.

What kind of coffee table do you think you're looking for? What about an oversized ottoman so you can put your feet up while watching tv? Use a tray on it to have a place to set drinks down.

Thanks all for comments, advice, and feedback; it is very much appreciated! As for coffee table, I like Grover's second option... People's feet will be on the coffee table, for sure. I'm open to ottoman, round, rectangular...anything that's not too traditional or rustic that coordinates with the rest of the room. TV console has been very hard to find because of the space...it can only be 51" and tv is 48 inches....not an ideal situation. (DH, that limited space is why I can't move the drapes out :( Do you think I need throw pillows for sofa? And again, thank you for all the great advice...you can see I am putting it into action!

Yes, pillows and a throw would make the space look comfy and inviting. It's a way to bring in some color if you want. Almost any color will go since everything is pretty neutral right now, or you could bring in some more creams, beige, and tans. If you stay neutral, look for at least a couple of items that have some different textures for variety and interest.

I found this handmade coffee table at a local store! The base is a whiskey barrel. (Not returnable). Do either of these pillow sets work?
Pics got mixed up. Here's the second option.

Yes, I like the first option of your pillow sets.

Looks good. I like the pop of orange in the cons one, but I'd have to say I like the 1st set in your room better. The softer tones and touches of blue work well with everything, including to your new curtains. What do you think? Are you liking how this is pulling together?

Yes, DH, I am liking how everything is turning out! I wanted soothing neutral, and I think that is being achieved. I will now be busy looking for a tv console and reconfiguring my gallery wall like Grover showed, and then I will post more pics. Thanks again for your advice and encouragement!
