No moisture is absorbed by a Chilewich mat. It's just vinyl-like plastic.

I had carpet tiles in my family room when I had 2 boys under 5. It was great for a temporary fix. And when one split his head open and bled everywhere. Had extras so I just threw those tiles away and replaced them. Mine wore them out in 5 years. But totally served their purpose in the rough boy years.

As our dog got older and started slipping on the wood floors, I used Flor tiles as a runner in a long hallway. They are wool. That was at least seven years ago and they still look fine. I think they are actually quite a nice and fairly inexpensive solution in areas that get a lot of traffic.

Note that Flor offers samples. Get a sample. Take it to the garden and grind dirt into it.

Then pour red wine on it. You will find they clean up nicer than any full size carpet advertised as stain resistant. Since I've had Flor, I have been able to have white/light carpets - I'm not forced to have dark colors or designs that hide dirt.
