Okay, Gary! Remember that big lake near you that is running out of water? Fescue lawns is the reason Lake Mead is dying. Well, there might be more to that, but certainly fescue lawns don't help. Fescue is a cool season grass. You live in what many people consider to be the hottest place in the country. You should voluntarily do your part for society and replace your fescue entirely with either hybrid bermuda (Celebration or TIF 419) or with one of the new hybrid buffalo grasses (UC Verde). These grasses need about 1/7 the water it takes to keep fescue alive in your climate. Both are fine bladed. Look around Las Vegas and you will see lots of fescue grass. Imagine everyone switching to a less water hungry turf and that lake filling back up. Fescue in LV is not the entire issue. There is waaaay too much fescue in the Desert Southwest from Palm Springs to Las Vegas to Tucson.

So when we see the picture, I'm hoping the weed will be St Augustine. St Augustine is another warm season grass that will take over just about every grass there is. While it likes a little excess water, it does not need nearly as much as you use to keep the fescue happy.
