I think it depends on your budget. It seems like from the before and after photos that you'd like to keep the existing layout.

You can save money refacing the cabinetry and resurfacing the countertops with the new granite. Paint, fixtures and other renovations you can certainly handle yourself. New appliances will be going in the same location, so it seems like refacing and resurfacing could be a good decision.

If the cabinetry is wood or still in good condition, reface it and save yourself the time and money. Demolition can be a pain.
