Growing Tomatoes

Tomato question

This is not exactly a growing tomato question but a why do they grow this way question.

I buy my tomatos at the store...the 'on the vine' kind so i know they all came from one plant. So when i am cutting them i have notice some have 4 seed sections, some have 3 seed sections and a few even just have 2 sections. Being that they are all on the same stem and came from the same plant my head tells me they should all have the same number of sections but they don't. Anyone know why?

It depends on the amount of pollen and the atmospheric conditions at the time of pollination. Each bloom pollinates itself separately so while they are the same variety on the same stem they may differ in size and internal appearance. Once pollinated the growing conditions available can also result in different internal development.

Thanks for the answer. It is something i sit and think about as i slice tomatos...so the mystery is solved.
