Did your green Not-Sun-Hosta bloom this year? Did the "real" one (which may simply be So Sweet or is at best some sport thereof) bloom? Were the blooms the same (both fragrant and near-white)? If they were, your all-green form should be similar to 'Sweetness', but it sure doesn't look like it, although a 'Sweetness' grown in your climate might look different from the one picture at the Hosta Library.

I wouldn't hold out much hope for your Frances Williams seedling in your climate.

Do they go dormant for you? Mine do, but they are in pots.

Yes. They both bloomed fragrant, white blooms. The buds had a purple tint. If I remember correctly they looked the same to me.

I don't think it went dormant last year. We had a really warm winter though. I am guessing it might some years, but not others.

I was wondering if I could refrigerate the seedling? It spent its first 2 or 3 years in NC. It went dormant there but still is very small.

And to repeat myself, the "Sun Hosta" that I planted which does look like So Sweet had the best fragrance of any Hosta I smelled this year. If you live in the south I highly recommend it.

So, zkathy, does Sun Hosta seem different than So Sweet to you? I don't have Sun Hosta, but have seen it at the Dallas Arboretum. I did not notice anything that distinguished it from So Sweet. They look and act like the same plant to me.

So Sweet is my favorite hosta, and one of the only survivors of my bout with Rhizoctonia Root Rot. I acquired it in 2009 and, although it seemed it would succumb to the rot, it rebounded and should be back to it's former glory by next summer. My second So Sweet also survived.

My So Sweet is in a pot at the office and gets no direct sun. It didn't bloom this year. My Sun Hosta in the garden is very vigorous.

How's the fragrance on So Sweet, bkay?

It's one of the most fragrant.
