Propogating an existing Hapu'u

Solo Voyager

I have a Hapu'u that is growing up into the power lines coming into the house.

It has to go!

It has 5 offsets growing on it's trunk, 3 of which are low on the trunk and quite well developed creating an understory of fronds.
One of the smaller offsets is also low on the trunk, while the last one is higher up.
What I'd like to do is cut off the upper portion of the trunk just above the 3 well developed offsets taking the upper smaller offset with it. It would end up being about 2-1/2' to 3' long after removing all the developed fronds from it.

Then, I intend to plant it maybe 8" to 12" deep in the mulched area near the bottom of the 1st photo, about 15' to 20' away from the original plant. It would be supported with stakes until a root system developed enough to hold it upright.

Is there anyone familiar enough with propagating and growing Hapu'u that can comment on my plan for this fern tree?
