How do I start and what do I do?

I want to surprise my mother who is in the hospital with a closet conversion to a home office/linen storage.

Her furniture throughout the house is whitewashed , monochromatic, clean.

She has a printer and would be using a laptop . If I could squeeze in a mirror and drawers for her make up that would be great. A place for paperwork and linen storage on the top shelf which I was planning on keeping

This closet is in a hallway across from her walkin closet and next to the bathroom . I added some photos to give you an idea

I don't know where to start and how to finalize design plan. Thoughts?

Are you sure she wants this? I wouldn't want my home office next to a bathroom.

Also, I hate surprises.

I would contact a cabinetmaker for a quote & ideas. Mine does such things. Or, in the alternative, you could get a quote from one of the closet organizer companies. It all depends upon how much you can ( or want) to spend, or if this is a DIY project.

Is there existing electrical or can you get new wiring in that closet? Elfa system?

I would never presume to "surprise" someone by converting a hall closet to a makeup vanity/office/linen closet....unless that is exactly what she SAID she wanted. The makeup belongs in the bathroom and the office needs more space than that. Leave Mom's linen closet alone.

She wanted to convert the space but I wanted her to come home to the finished project. Anyway , yes there is electrical

When I redo a space, I ask what functions the space needs to serve, I then figure out what needs to be kept (Are there any linens that should be donated? Worn towels/blankets that can go to local animal shelter?). What size is the printer? How much clear space is needed around it to use it well? Perhaps the printer goes on a rolling cart that has storage below. Laptop on another rolling cart. Can you add lighting to the closet? HTH.
