Hi everyone - looking for some advice with respect to soffit ventilation. We are currently restoring the cedar siding on our 100 year colonial home in north NJ and are trying to determine if we need to add vent openings into the soffits to allow airflow. While restoring we've noticed that the first level of the backside of the house (pictured below) has a few rectangular openings in the original soffits for ventilation, however none of the other sides and levels of the house do. Do we need these and if so on all sides and all levels? Our contractor couldn't give us a straight answer so we would greatly appreciate any feedback!
