Does anyone has ideas for buffet or sideboards? The grandfather clock can be moved. I photoshopped a drum shade in which I like. I really like an orb pendent but think it might be to modern a look over a traditional table.

The blue rug that jck910 looks very nice with your living room decor. It would look lovely under your dining table. I immediately thought of blue and white ginger jars on a buffet or side table. Search blue and white ginger jars on this website and you will see lots of coastal, transitional and traditional decor.

I also like the blue rug and the ginger jars are lovely. I have many pieces I could display, but nothing to put them on at this time. The table and chairs were a wedding gift many moons ago and I still like it. We never ordered a matching buffet as life intervened with children and other necessities. I used an old buffet given to us in our old dining room that I could refinish/repaint to put in dining area, but wall space is large and piece isn’t. Not sure what direction to go looking at buffets-try to match table or go a totally different route.

I would buy a lovely chandelier with lots of sparkling glass ..then put a mirror on one wall facing the room so that it will reflect light . And when you look into the room from the place where you shot your photo it would make it look lighter and lovely . The Mirror should be halfway up over a credenza where you can put a large tray with candles ...and put your China inside . And Yes, take that clock out . It's pretty but not useful nor right in that space . If you have a paintings ...put it on the other wall or get a large lovely painting on the other wall wall ........you need to make it lighter ..mirrors are good in dark spaces like this and a small chandelier would bring elegance and sparkle .

Ps the beige , off white or grey rug look great and are good ideas for you . I would go with the lighter textured color off white ..beige or light grey ..., can't tell the exact color , brings out and enhances your lovely dining table and chairs.

I have a large gilded mirror that belonged to my mother that I would like to use in this house. I thought it would be perfect on one of the walls. Will have to start looking for photos to see how this would tie in with space. I don’t need everything to match, but want things to complement each other. Any opinion about buffet-what color/tone to do?

I would buy a large gently-patterned rug which includes beige and the blue you have in the living room, add large framed art pieces which have beachy themes (sandy beach, sail boat, shells or coral, fishing pier, island scene), a white and just lightly distressed buffet cabinet and a separate hutch filled with pretty (aqua?) dishes and colored glassware (Depression glass?), and casual placemats. Your table and chairs are beautiful and easily work with this relaxed beach theme. If you find an old small cabinet in the same/similar color of your table, it could serve as a console on which to place a large vase of flowers and also add another spot of the deeper brown.

Everything in model homes we have seen is staged with round tables and it looks great in the dining spaces, but I just could not justify spending the money right now on a new table and chairs when I still like this table. I am struggling with buffet/hutch/sideboard piece. Woodtone, cream color, white, or other color?

Beautiful home! I know you didn't ask, but I'd turn your rug 90 degrees and put the front feet of your chairs on it.

I will give that a try when we get to Florida. I know you can’t see it but couch faces a large wall,which is another story. Plan to do some type of built in unit for TV and to maximize storage and give me some shelving to display things. This is why I kept table and am trying to do dining area with pieces and not built-ins (which the models always have-they like to tease you with all this extras and add-ons)!

Yes move the clock, it needs a smaller wall it's lonely there. I like the blue rug. Also remove chair pads too kitcheny. Your ceiling is tall so when looking for a china it needs to be tall. How about a white one.

Jan, Yes clock sure does look lonely. Ceilings much higher in this house so it looks like a baby not a grandfather clock! I planned to replace chair cushions but want to get some furniture in there first. Would you go with a creamy white or pure white for furniture?

I have the first media console (in cream) you posted. Are you thinking of using it in DR?

The blue piece if right size for your wall would add color and tie the rooms together. Sisal rug for texture under the table and lamp and art suggestion over piece. Pillow suggestion on sofa to update the space. Also, clock placement elsewhere and rug positioning in FR would look better. Visual of suggestions to see the design. Good luck.

I would remove the clock and look for a long console for one wall with art or prints above. In Florida there are so many great consignment stores and I'm sure you could find a really nice console and paint it white. I think it's important to keep the dining area feeling light and airy. Instead of a drum chandelier, a crystal would feel lighter. On the other wall, you could add a large mirror - the one below would be perfect and reflect light, as the room does feel dark. In regards to a rug I would look for a wool/sisal or light overdyed style for a less formal look and add white Sunbrella cushions (sold on Overstock) for a more modern look.

Also, I forgot to mention I would remove the cushions and paint white or cream to create the more casual coastal feel.

Good morning, What size area rug should go in dining area? The table has all the leaves in it so this is as large as it gets. Also, should I be looking at 2 sideboards (1 for each wall) or just one piece. I do like the blue piece and see it is 70” long.

What are the sizes of both walls? Ceiling height as well. What will be the function of the space and or desired needs besides a buffet? Above the buffet an arrangement of art to the ceiling and lamps or mirror depending on your preference. As Maurene suggested a large mirror on one of the walls would look fantastic in this space.

The dimensions of the dining area are 13x14 and the ceiling height is 11 ft. This will be our more “formal” dining area. I hope to do a lot of eating outside! I can see this being used for holiday dining, but not on a regular basis. I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles so I know this will be the puzzle table! Our old house had a separate dining room (it was not open to kitchen or family room) and it was seldom seen or used. As you can imagine, things tended to collect in the old dining room.

Can clock move there or can I see the space

Jodie, Yes I can move the clock either out to the foyer area you are pointing to or we have another room we can put it in. We moved furniture down in August and movers just placed things quickly for us. We are heading down soon, but I am looking for ideas while I have some time.

Wallpaper would be amazing in your dining area.

Artwork could be fun or sea fans for interest. Larger piece of furniture as the height of your ceilings are tall.

Oh my, are those pictures lovely! I love the linear pendant light and had considered one before we decided to use existing dining room table. I didn’t think linear light would work with oval table (they seem to always be used with rectangular tables).

Make sure that the rug is large enough for all chairs to have all legs on it when people are sitting.

(To finish) Designs, don't know what color sort of white wash barnwoodtone color. You want a coastal look so it has to be light. Also like that very large window pane mirror she posted. We also live in Florida full time but I have more traditional look. Getting ready to paint if all the hurricanes will please stop.

This is a dining room we did, and although it has a traditional feel it is also light and airy. Perhaps adding some wallpaper to your room and a nice rug will help? Also are you willing to paint your table or chairs at all?

Beautiful room Michelle! I have a large gilded mirror that belonged to my mom and I would love to use it in this house. I don’t know about painting table and chairs-would prefer to do creamy color seat cushions or maybe get those slipcovers that I can pull over chairs. My mind is spinning-trying to decide what way to go with light-I love the linear chandelier that Jodie posted, but with oval table does that even work? I would rather have brushed nickel light to tie in with lighting I want to do in kitchen over island, but then can I use the gilded mirror? Love the wall paper idea, something soft and subtle. I keep showing things to my husband and his eyes are glazing over!
