Interesting, and I am certainly one who loves oddities... but does it have any useful culinary qualities?

Idk yet. Still early in the breeding stage yet. What culinary qualities are you looking for specifically? I certainly plan to steer and/or keep making crosses with this line to keep our improve culinary and edible qualities in the future.

I'm thinking kids who don't otherwise like pea soup, might eat purple pea soup. ;-) Provided that the color survives cooking, which I realize is unlikely.

I don't know if the color would stay in the peas, but it definitely would stay in the water :)

Joseph say's that if you add just a hint of vinegar to water when boiling red and purple pea pods that more of the color stays. Something like that might work with the peas themselves too. not sure.
