Jan, that is what is known as a Mile-a-Minute afghan. It took me a while to find it among my collection of MAM books, but I did. It's from a old Leisure Arts book. One of the reasons it took me so long to find it is that the picture you posted is done in many variegated colors and the one in my book is all solids and looks very different. Also, it appears that the one in my book has the strips crocheted together, while the one in your picture is sewn together, giving it a different look as well.
