My small New Zealand lemonade has 4 bigger than golf ball size fruits

The problem with Meyers under 4 years is they will always hold onto more fruit than they should and will "forget" to grow. A Meyer that size should not be left with more than 1 or 2. After age 4, when the tree is bigger, a Meyer can be left to self thin.

I know it is big burden on the tree that size, Johnmerr:) It put out more flowers couple months ago and I came to you asking what to do. Well, my choices were to leave only two fruits or feed it big dose of nitrogen or urea. Well, my kids were excited to have lemons later, so I fed it a big doze of fertilizer and it dropped the flowers. After the fruits ripen and picked, l am not going to let it set fruit until it is a decent size tree.

Everyone's trees look great. Sunshine I think your tree could win the citrus olympics if there ever was one. It's working overtime with those two branches and still looks beautiful!

John, I was wondering why my Meyer hasn't had a new flush in the last few months. I repotted it a couple weeks ago and out comes new flower buds again! It has definitely forgotten to grow.

I tried pulling off flower buds to stop the flowering but it looks like I might have to either let them fruit and self thin or throw on a huge dose of bloodmeal too

I know people can't wait for fruit but it's best not to let the plant fruit until it can support it. The fruit holds down young branches and takes a lot of energy from the plant.

In the wild citrus don't fruit until they're much older, but being on different grafted rootstock changes that, so the plant needs help. Maybe just leave one fruit on the little tree.

Thank you Parker Turtle! I don't get too sad when picking off the fruitlets for the sake of growth but I picked off flowers about a month ago and they're producing more flowers again. I forgot who it was but someone said to let some fruitlets stay so the trees know to stop flowering and then pluck it off later. I'll be trying that this time. My Meyer tree is also a cutting. Thats probably why it behaves so erratically :l
