I'd leave it as well, a 'pinky nail' sized leaf is probably already a second year seedling so it's doing alright even if the parent plant didn't. The colander idea is a good one though, if anything you're most likely to forget about it and either mow or step on the little thing. If you do happen to move it, I'd wait until spring and try avoiding frost heave issues etc

Thank you both! I'll leave it and protect if from overzealous leaf blowing husband's, etc. I dug up the area the Spring so I wonder if this one was inspired by all the upheaval.

Oh good news! I bought three hockey pucks (ahem corms) of hederfolium last year and the squirrels kept digging them up and I kept finding and replacing them. Never threw up any leaves or flowers so I thought the squirrels won. Yesterday, found this tiny slug eaten flower - if I get leaves, I'm in business.

If you have a flower I'm pretty certain you'll soon get leaves. Be careful not to over cover the corms. They prefer to have their shoulders showing.

Thank you Floral. It should only get a light sprinkle of needles from the tree above. I have read to bury them 1-2 inches in the soil or to have them in the leaf litter merely touching the soil. When I did the second, I got major rearranging by squirrels. I was thinking of putting maybe half an inch of soil on top any next ones I buy to help make them harder to move until they grow roots and fasten themselves to the ground.
