Refrigerator placement feedback needed

I'm designing my kitchen and I currently have my refrigerator along the perimeter to the right of my sink for easy access to the island and sink. My thinking is that it will be easier and more efficient to use the kitchen this way but I'm worried it's making my kitchen usable space smaller than it needs to be. People are telling me to move it to the other side of the island, but it's seems so inefficient. Anyone have any thoughts? Am I making a big mistake? Attached a photo below of the mock up.

The refrigerator is the most used appliance in the kitchen because everybody uses it, not just the cook.....if possibly you do not want anything close to it such as a cabinet as when one person is using the fridge someone is generally passing them so you end up with congestion....I like where you have it as long as the island stops before the fridge begins or you will have congestion. It looks to be also close to the dining area so is readily accessible when using the dining or breakfast table.

PS a wood floor is much softer than tile and much warmer.

Thanks for your feedback. As of now the island does stop right before the fridge-thanks for pointing out where the potential issue would come up. It is also next to the kitchen table- all about convenience :)

I think It should stay and be how you want it to be

If you use the refrigerator a lot then do as you wish I don't think your making a huge mistake I think it is the right choice

Definitely keep the fridge where it is. The left side has a more cohesive appearance, and keeping the fridge near the sink / prep area makes sense.
    Beautiful!

I like the fridge location. Would want it near a sink! Also, I wouldn't mind if the island was closer to the fridge - this is a similar layout to my kitchen, and I'm constantly taking stuff out of the fridge and putting it down on the island right behind me. So I don't have a problem if you were to extend the island towards the fridge a bit more. In my kitchen, we keep all the stuff we use infrequently in the cabinets on the left so it is all grouped together and your working area is all on the right by the fridge/sink/stove. Looks beautiful!!

Just looking at it again - the only thing I dislike is how the top of the fridge just ends, it looks a little choppy. And I don't know what is on the other side of the fridge, but it is blocking light from coming into the rest of the room from the window over the sink. Just a few things to consider if you haven't already

Thanks for the comments. The fridge will be built in so it won't look like it's floating-it will match the height of the hutch. Also there is a playroom to the right of the fridge with windows to the backyard, so I think there will be plenty of light.im so happy people are thinking about this so I make sure I have my bases covered! Thank you!

It's beautiful! Your layout is similar to the kitchen in the home we built 19 years ago. (Main difference is a window at the far end and the cooktop in the island across from the sink.) I still get lots of compliments on it and it "lives" really well!

When we first built, we bought a large refrigerator (because we live a long way from town, etc.) and did not realize that it would stick out 9" into the walkway. My island does extend further than yours and it was an issue when family or guests were here. The area in front of the frig was a bottleneck. After several years and some issues with the frig itself, we "bit the bullet" and bought a counterdepth refrigerator. It totally fixed the bottleneck and works perfectly in the space. (I do have a double-door type frig, freezer on the left, frig on the right, so the doors are not as wide as a full-width door.) The frig is in the perfect location so that ice and water can be accessed from the dining room/living room without disturbing the cook/s!

One of the features we enjoy with this arrangement is that we can have extended family or church friends over, put all the food on the island, and have two serving lines coming from the oven end of the kitchen toward the table -- with the iced tea and glasses on the frig end of the island. Enjoy! :)

nice kitchen arrangement... you can put your fridge anywhere you want, but not near the sink to avoid rust/corrosion

You could also possibly add some undercounter refrigeration somewhere else in the kitchen if you feel that the fridge might get congested. Perhaps some fridge drawers on the left side by the hutch for drinks so people can come in and quickly grab a drink and leave without getting in the way of the cooking area. You could keep glasses in those glass cabinets too. I'm a big fan of getting the sodas/juices/etc out of the main fridge and putting them somewhere else if you have the budget/space. Then again, my husband will fill every empty space in our fridge with beer/soda/water, so it is better for our marriage if he just has his own drink fridge!!!

I like how you set up things but I thing it will be better if you have bigger lighting.

Hello. The best place for your refrigerator, seems to me, on the right. There it looks very well. Therefore I would not begin to rearrange it to other place.

Thanks for all the feedback! We will have a drinks fridge in the island across from the hutch to try and eliminate congestion.
