Allium Globemaster /// Clay'ish soil

last modified: 8 years ago

Just prepped the area where I'm planning to put 20 globemasters.

Soil is somewhat water retentive.....it rained 3 days ago, and during todays prep, I can see it's somewhat clay'ish. In prepping the bed *peeled back mulch*, dug up soil - I left the soil on the tarp to get even some more sun as I post the question.

Is there a rule of thumb when planting alliums in soil that might be more water retentive. Plant them a inch or 2 more shallower than the recommended depth ? Zone 7B, and the soil usually has at least a good 8 inches+ of snowfall (sometimes hardpacked to 12+) that takes a good warm sun + air to wick the snow to melt over days....

Should I plant shallower, or just the usual 8 inches deep.
