A good way to start is to find either a color, a decoration, or piece of furniture that you absolutely love. Then begin picking things that go with it. Personally, I think a nice mirror, and a plant is always a good way to start.

What kind of style do you like? Bohemian, modern, vintage, industrial, traditional?

It appears someone has painted at least one wall brown. To my unexperienced eye, it doesn't go well with the carpet. The carpet seems to have a red undertone and the wall a yellow undertone. Without seeing your existing furniture, it's hard to suggest much of anything.

If you have nothing, I imagine you would start with a sofa. Just my opinion, but nix the mirror and plant.

Ryan, if you click on Houzz at the top left of this page and then type in the search line "decorate living room "and give the dimensions, you can see thousands of styles of rooms. Look through them and see if you can narrow it down to the style you like and colors you prefer, casual or formal etc. They have a SAVE option under each picture, save and view all your choices and cull out what you don't like etc. Then come back and tell us the style, color, etc. In the meantime, people will still be helping you here. Relax, its going to be fun.
