We are having our floors replaced and need to know who makes reliable quality engineered floors. Our builder uses Shaw but I've seen a lot of bad reviews and we have had problems with it too. What do you look for in a good engineered floor? Also, our furniture is mostly neutral oatmeal and taupe, legs are mostly on the grayish/taupe side, and we need to know what color tone to go with. Our kitchen cabinets are White Dove and walls Accessible Beige. Our kitchen island is a very dark stain. We are really needing to decide asap. Any suggestions? Our house is also very dark. We don't get much natural light at all, so we thought of going lighter, but everything I'm seeing is too gold, orange, red, or pinky/gray. We light a subtle hand scraped with low shine.

One last thing, what causes flooring to splinter and chip if there's been nothing on it to damage it? Is it just an inferior product in the first place? Thank you for any advice you can give. :)
