I came across a bunch of watsonias with seeds/fruit on the spent flower stalks. They look like small, 10mm long tear-drop shaped bulbs.

Is this the fruit or the seed?

did I collect the seed too early?

Can I plant the whole thing?

I split one open and it seems to be a fleshy dry solid thing, not a capsule with seeds inside...
