Update a Tudor dining room

last modified: 9 years ago

Hello all! Hoping to get some advice or thoughts as I'm suffering from indecision over here! We recently purchased an amazing 1930's brick Tudor in Minneapolis that we adore. Most rooms are looking good but our Dining Room is in need of some love! We want to honor the Tudor style and era of the home but we are far from purists. My only decision so far has been to add marble paper to the built ins (see comments for photo). The adjacent living room has dark blues and subtle oranges.

So:

1) Paint? The whole house was painted greige by the previous owners. Nice, but redundant. The dining room opens into the Kitchen, and I'm thinking if we paint just the Dining Room a different color it might chop the rooms up? And how do you update a beige tiled kitchen with paint?

2) Dining table and chairs. This cheap Craigslist table will be replaced! Hopefully with a round table with a leaf that can be added for large parties. Room is 11x13. The antique drop leaf in the photos is special but not practical, so we are planning on using it as a buffet where it currently is.

3) Light fixture. The plastic industrial fixture has got to go! Want something more appropriate to the home. Other fixtures are antique brass.

4) Fabrics. Thinking Roman Shades? And need a rug.
