PTTD Surgery 11-2.....Uffda!

Good grief!

Right foot has been getting a little worse this Fall. My lace-up shorter brace & custom orthotics (shoe inserts) have helped, but the trend is downward. I DON'T wanna be a slave to a brace!!!

After a bad Tuesday at work, I got into my Podiatrist Wed am. We decided it could be time to fix this foot! He had a surgery opening on 11-2. Sooooooo....now I gotta get some jobs done around the house before that! Get snowblower ready, wash windows, cars waxed......yikes!! Maybe get some carpets cleaned again too.

As many of you may know, this means 6 weeks non weight-bearing, in a cast....using crutches. I've never had to wear a CAST!!!! Then, weeks 7 & 8 in a walking boot. Maybe out of boot at Christmas?!??!

My right shoulder is getting much stronger now, since Rotator-Cuff surgery back on April 20th. Gotta handle crutches now! Insurance-wise, it'll be a freebie, since all deductibles & co-pays have been met.

Oh....."joy"!??!!? ;-)

If you have a Good Feet store near you and haven't talked to them, I'd highly recommend a visit. Custom orthotics, semi-custom, and everything in between did nothing for me but within 24 hours of wearing the Good Feet orthotics my plantar fasciitis began to improve with 100% resolution within a short time. I don't know what type of condition you're dealing with but I believe they offer orthotics for various conditions. I'd sure consider at least talking with them before entering into surgery.

I'm so sorry, Faron! Any surgery is not fun, and neither is the recovery from it. Here's hoping it goes really well with a speedy recovery!

OMG - how many appendages have you had surgery on now? So sorry you have to go through these things but hopefully you'll be good to go once they're done.

DSG- Thank you for your kind thought! My foot condition is a lot different than PF. PTTD is an excessively flat foot. Foot is rotated out to the right too far. Pain on top-right & around to the Achilles. Basically, the arch has collapsed completely.

We did try custom-molded orthotics, started using in mid-August. The brace has helped me work this Fall, but the benefit is waning. It'll only get worse.....

Going into next spring, I want this behind me, & not depending on ever-increasing bracing. I realize I'll lose a little side-to-side "rolling" foot motion, but.....I've already lost some functionality!!

Lol! The "list of surgeries".... ;-). In chrono-order, starting in 2010......

    1) Large Hernia repair, 2) Left leg vein-removal, 3) Right leg vein removal, 4) Left total-knee replacement 9-24-14, 5) Right shoulder Rotator-Cuff surgery 4-20-17, aaaaaaaaaaand.....yikes..... 6) Right foot "Foot-fusion/Arch re-creation" surgery coming 11-2-17.

    >>> Officially....my first surgery was waaaaayyback in Nov '78, when my Left MCL was repaired.

    Yes, I am becoming a "Borg"!! ;-)

Best wishes, Faron - This is a tough time of year to have to go through this with winter and holiday season coming. BUT, there's always this -

Faron, I was going to suggest a knee walker, too. Like Writer said, it's probably better for your shoulder, and probably safer in snow and ice than crutches!

    Good luck with the surgery!

You did great with the shoulder surgery, you'll do great with this one too. No fun but your heading to no pain in the end. Be brave buddy!

Yep! A knee-scooter is something we talked about in late summer, when I thought surgery may be on the horizon. Seems kinda fun....in a way..... ;-) With my "Dukes of Hazzard" drivers license, it'll fit right in!!!

So far, I think I'll use the full 6 weeks of ST-Disability, & stay home. I am paying for it! I may change my mind if things go "ok", & work with the scooter in-store?!?! Weeks 7 & 8 are in the boot.

My3dogs.....LOL! I love those types of cards! The pic of your puppies' foot, pointing UP in that chair, is even MORE appropriate now!!! ;-)

Riley, who is in my office chair cuddling against my back right now, is happy to make another appearance! That Craigslist barely used 'lift chair' was one of my best finds ever. SO comfy, and you can see when I wasn't in it, he was, hence the sheet covering it, like every other chair and sofa here!

Sorry to hear this, Faron, but it sounds like the right solution. Another vote for the knee scooter. It is so much easier than crutches. I rented mine online. I hope the surgery goes well and hope you have a smooth recovery.

M3D- That pic is so damn cute/funny! I may have to post a similar pic..... ;-)

TJ- Did u have a similar surgery? If you said at some point, I don't recall!

Faron.....so sorry you are facing yet another surgery but it’s probably best not to put it off. Hopefully you’ll heal in time for the holidays.

M3D- So sorry!! Nevermind! I remembered!!!

JP- I'll be "bootless" somewhere's around Christmas. Being "fully healed", aka, walking totally normal (or real close!)....might be next Spring.

Like the Knee & Shoulder...............gonna take time! It'll just take even LONGER to get into Stadiums. ;-)

"You have metal there TOO Sir"?!??!!

Good luck, Faron! MIL had the knee scooter after foot surgery for a Morton neuroma, and it was so much more help because she could help herself more around the house.
