crape myrtle

Not a crepe myrtle, it's low growing.

Flowers and leaves are definitely those of a crape myrtle. There are many dwarf or low growing forms.........not all are tree-like shrubs :-))

Hee, and Lisa, if you don't know and ask for an id, you probably shouldn't reply back with absolute certainty in your post. I agree, a bedding plant type crepe (dwarf). It's actually a rather large specimen of it's type, but probably only because it hasn't been pruned to ground as is often typical (yearly).

Well I'm the first one to admit I'm wrong,but I've never seen or wasn't aware of dwarf low growing crepe myrtle. I have several and this little plant just looked different to me. Even the bloom shape seemed different.

Flowers actually look quite typical. Since there are even cultivars described as miniature low habit of this one doesn't seem dependent on the planting having been cut back to me. This company has a nationwide presence at retail outlets, maybe it is one of their offerings:

Yes, my point being that people that try to make the most miniature, cut them back yearly, not that it is required.

A wholesale plant outlet I worked at in the 1980s got in some examples from a series that was called Crape Myrtlettes. These were quite petite, almost comically so. Definitely miniature, when compared to a normally sized (tree form) selection.

Yes! I grew some of those, and yes, they were smaller than many/most perennials :)
