Susanne, I ordered that insecticide you posted. I’ve seen nothing bad yet, but prevention is easier than dealing with an infestation- especially in my crowded sunroom.

Laura - I may get one more pair of those stands so I can place one more in the center of the basement citrus setup and the other up in the guest room (to have 3 stands up there). All told, there are 16 clamp-on lights in the basement (12 by the citrus and 4 across from them for other plants) and 4 clamp-ons up in the guest room.

I was able to find the warm white (2700K) version of the twisters at my local HD for the same price (<$10 for a 4-pack) as the daylight (6500K) ones, so I have both color temperature twisters mixed in with the daylight and warm white LEDs for my 20 clamp-ons.

seed grown Meiwa kumquat gets fed in a water tight plant saucer on wheels. One gallon of 24-8-16 will provide a 1/3 gallon of run through. This run through form 8 plants will feed my outside in ground NZL

This sucks the excess water out and aerates the soil.

Oh Laura, that looks fantastic. The scent in the air must be heavenly. I have all my citrus (but one) in the mudroom with closed door to the living room. And still can smell the citrus flowers when the fan is on

Thank you Susanne and Dave. Yes, it does smell great, and Dave, it’s more of a jungle! I just noticed a ripe key lime fell off one of the trees, but reaching it is going to be hell...lol. I’ll have to crawl and likely get impailed by the thorns several times ;-)

OMG Laura - I know you mentioned it in another thread, but I see you are now using the "overflow" areas. :-D I know it must smell heavenly. I had a couple tiny blooms on my Tango (they were much smaller than lemon and lime blooms) and I figured I'd have to put my nose all the way into the flower to get a whiff, but nope. They were wafting from about 6" out.

As a note - I did see someone post a pic (might have been John since he has Ponderosas) where the huge lemon was propped up on an upside down plastic pot placed on the floor near the branch with the lemon - (sortof like propping up a pumpkin or squash off the ground). That way the heavy fruit didn't have to pull the branch down too far. If you have another tree close to that lemon, you could consider upending a small pot in a neighbor tree's container and let the lemon sit on that until it is done. Or maybe try a couple stakes in a pot with a sling (I have seen cantaloupes done that way and have done that with spaghetti squash).

Susanne, I use those gadgets all the time to pick up leaves and other debris in b the greenhouse and growing areas. Couldn!t live without them. Laura, your trees and their fruits are gorgeous!

I use one of those too. Mostly on key limes that have knack of rolling into the hardest to reach spots. Very handy gadgets.

I did get poked quite a bit, but harvested a bunch of yellow key limes. I need to make a pie (or two) this weekend.

My Oro blanco has one open flower, smells so nice. Lots of new growth too, finally after doing nothing the whole summer.

Shiranui, wondering if this one will sett fruit this time of year? Two little fruitlets already fell off but not sure they came off because not fertilized enough, too dry or me not careful when turning lights on and off?

Kaffir lots of little fruitlets, makes me wonder if some will stick? That would be the first time I get some.

I have two of those ‘grabby hands’, but mine are a little more comical. One is a robot claw and the other is an actual green fist that opens and closes. I’ve never used them for fruit because I don’t have the sheer number of trees that some of you have (Laura, Cory, Jinnylea, Susanne - I’m so jealous. I just want to come over and play in your trees), but I have used them when I drink stuff behind the fridge, dryer, dress, under the bed...I drop things a lot.

Alanna, those sound fun! Susanne, the oroblanco flower looks beautiful! I absolutely love the scent of those! I thought my Meyers were finished blooming outside, but Alexander appears to be an overachiever - I just saw flower buds starting out on some limbs ;-)

I couldn't resist plucking one Kishu. This might be shared 4 ways or may accidentally get "lost" since its so tiny.

Are kishus normally this small?

Susanne - When I got my new Kishu (2 gallon size from OGW), it had 3 fruit. One had already fallen off in the shipping box and the other 2 fell off as I took the tree out of the box. I took a pick of the fallen fruit that day -

And then a week later after the fruit colored up and I tried one -

I think this is why the fruit are not commercially available in stores and are often considered more a novelty due to the small size. But I love the size, and the fruit that I tried above were pretty much done (although they fell off in October when I got the tree). They supposedly normally ripen by December/January.

The ones i buy from the grocery store is bigger. Not by much. This is the first year for fruits and the tree is small. I expect the fruits to get a little bigger as the tree grows bigger.

Beautiful fruit and trees everyone! Thank you for sharing your pictures. Laura, compared to your setup last fall your trees have really grown (and your collection :)) a lot since then. I like seeing the greenery in all of the rooms..I do not see any trays under your pots to catch the water..How do you water them when they are so close together?

Laura - I chuckled at that thread and am amazed at how your beautiful collection is and most importantly, how productive it has been for you. At least your kids have adopted some of them but I know it will probably be interesting to see what happens with your budgies and your new ones. I used to have one 50 years ago (yikes) as a kid and kept considering getting one again, although I ended up doing tropical freshwater and marine fish/reef critters instead (but don't have a tank setup here at this point). Always wondered how the heck you corral one if it needs to go back into a cage. :-o

Oh the tender beginnings :) Now you have such a beautiful collection Laura and all look great. It amazed me to see the difference in size for the ones I nurtured for five years and the new ones. I might loose one here or there over the next years but alone the thought of having more then 30 trees in size of my old ones is kinda heavy. And because they are in different soil and overwintering condition (very active growing while in winters past they would more or less hibernate) They will even grow faster and get bigger faster.

Well... -8C tonight with snow and a high of -1 tommorow and sunday. I guess winter is starting for me :(

I think he knew the collection was growing when he had to share his music room with all of those trees.. :) Hey, Laura, how is the Nules doing, did it produce fruit yet?

Kevin, I hear you! We had single digits for the last two nights.. woke up to three inches of snow.

I received my Four Winds order late this afternoon..It was delivered by USPS and it was in transit for nine days! I was so worried for the trees. They were scheduled to arrive yesterday.. I was scared to open the box, but the trees survived the long trip in the freezing temperature just fine! They are beautiful trees.

Susanne, did your Red Lime and other trees from Hirts show up yet?

Kevin not just for you. We had -8C last night too. During the day did not warm up a lot. Still -3C. Tonight -7C but then a bit warmer. Yup, winter is early. I knew as we had an abundance on walnuts this year. Have not seen that many in a long time.

Jinnylea yes all my trees arrived and all of them are just beautiful. I think best quality this year so far.

Susanne , Laura beautiful tree's . Laura look at all that vitamin "C" hanging from your tree's, without a doubt your family will be the healthiest on your block this winter . Susanne your home must smell incredible . Good job guy's !!

Jinny and Susanne, please post pics of your FW trees! I’d love to see them! Jenny, I had forgotten all about that thread. It is amazing to see my trees then and now. I cannot believe how big they are now. I should try to post pics of a few of them now on that thread so you guys can see how quickly these trees grow. Jinny, the Nules I bought from fasttrees and it was a stick when I got it. It has not been the fastest to grow but now does have fruit and a bunch of fruitlets. I see my thornless key lime in one of those pics and it now almost touches the ceiling of my porch. Yeah Jinny, you are right....my husband (who is a bit clueless about things like that) I think just kept seeing more and more trees to his dismay ;-). Brian and Kevin, keep those trees warm up there!

Jinny, here is the best pic I can take of the Nules...it is so crowded that I can’t get a whole tree shot. It is still considerably shorter than many of my other trees, but I expect it to have some fruit ripe next year sometime.

See in the middle, lower, slightly left there is a small fruit? That is a clementine. I’m not sure how visible they are, but in the upper middle, there is a cluster of fruit also, and it is blooming again. The fruit on the right is a key lime...I am going to make TWO key lime pies tomorrow and give some to my mom and uncle who are coming over for dinner! If I eat so much pie, I will be unable to button my jeans..lol!

I’m going to comment on the other old thread that Jenny found so you guys can more easily see the growth.

Calamondin, very bushy too, two little twigs broke during transit but really not noticable. No fruits yet but this must look great with fruits

In my opinion, the Fukushu looks the best. I'm not a big fan of bushy trees. Nice collection tho.

Susanne, the fukushu and all the trees look GREAT! I’m so happy you got those healthy trees. Watch the trees from OGW very carefully for scale.

Thank you Laura will watch. Already got a BH and seville sour orange from OGW a couple of weeks and clean as a wistle. BH has at least four flower buds and new growth. Seville kept one fruit and wants to start flowering again. Also new growth. But you never know what comes in next right?

I was thinking of getting a tangerine type citrus. Anything you guys recommend? Easy to peel, rip off segments and have lots of sweet juice inside each segment?

Susanne I'm with you on this all the tree's look great but I absolutely love the flying dragon the look is so different . Lol so what is the flying dragon grafted on ?

Suzanne - great trees. Too great! I especially like the flying dragon and fukushu. Makes me want to get them. See what you did! I have no more room in the green house. And I don't have any more window space. Might have to get rid of some of my wife's plants. Just kidding.

I don't have to promise no more trees to my wife because she is my enabler. In fact, she brings trees home! Oh, I have this bug bad and what am I to do? Are there rehab programs for citrusholics?

You guys crack me up. Other than the red lime, I’m staying put for now...with citrus ;-). I just ordered four orchids! I realize a few of my orchids are “seniors” - likely 23+ years old. They are going strong though. Since some of my citrus trees are so big, I figured I’d put them in hanging baskets like we had them in Florida (Brian gave me the idea of hanging from citrus). They need repotting anyways. Those orchids have survived four kids and the neglect that came with having newborns...and they look better than I’ve ever seen them now that they spend summers outside. So, bottom line: the citrus will get put to good use holding them up ;-)

Laura your trees are so beautiful and an inspiration! I saw how Mike has transitioned his trees into a room full of lamps. Soon enough you'll see all of our trees becoming as green as yours one day! I was at IKEA last week checking out lamps and bought the $15 Lersta yesterday. I was setting it up and belatedly realized this was the lamp you suggested us to use back when everyone talked about their overwintering plans! I'm so glad I found it, I love the way the lamp looks and how it's tall enough to fit a lot underneath.

I had a different fluorescent lamp on my tree before I got the IKEA lamp and it really greened up my Meyer. Once it became October, my Meyers leaves weren't vivid green anymore and was dropping old leaves like no tomorrow. I should've brought it back in much earlier. I now have an LED grow light in the IKEA lamp and I'm pointing the fluorescent to the side of my tree :) it seems to be loving the light that disappeared outdoors

5 flowers bloomed indoors within a few days of each other! I caught one bloom half open today when it was fully closed last night. Great idea putting the light clamps on the lamp, I'll definitely be getting one to do the same

Just an update on my key Lime. It seems to be pretty happy and producing lots of fruit. It will be nice when we can get it into the ground this winter.

I need to change out the pot as it’s breaking apart but I am hoping it will make it until it gets planted.

Beautiful tree, BaconEater! I find that limes grow wide, my Bearss lime grew in width only this summer.

Thanks sunshine! It’s come quite a long ways in a year. The fruit is good but small kind of like I expected for a smaller tree.
