Hi Tracy, thanks for the question! This is a vertical-grain fir with a clear finish -- not stained, so this is the natural color of the fir showing.

Can you do this on a shaker style cabinet or does it have to be flat? Is that a veneer?

I'm looking for something comparable and have seen a Clear Alder in Natural finish that is similar. Not exact but also much more affordable.

Hi Tracy -- this isn't veneer, but whether you use veneer or not, it is possible to create a similar look on a shaker style door. With veneer, it would just be a fussier process: the inset panel would be simple to do as a veneer, but the edges of the frame of the shaker style doors would need to be solid wood or a full overlay veneer with a solid wood edgeband to look finished.
