Narrow dining room

Hello All. I am in the process of buying a house and am switching rooms around a bit. I think I can pull this off - but wanted to ask the community. Do you think I can turn a room that is 2.5 x 3.65meters into a dining room (8.2 x 11.97 feet)? If yes, any ideas/suggestions? There is a window along one side (the 11.97ft side). Thanks in advance...

I'd be tempted to have a custom table made that is less wide than a standard dining table.

Depending on the room, you might consider a built in bench on one side leaving space for chairs on the other side.

Hi All. Yes, I am willing to think outside the box - as I really want this to work! Below are 2 photos of the now kitchen (which I will remove - not my style and not functional) - one photo of the space, and another shows the opening/situation. Please keep ideas coming! Also, in my new kitchen we will have an island which I hope will be our regular eating spot - it is just me and my two kids. However, I do have friends over and need a place to entertain. The house is small - but the outside is not, so this house is all about spring, summer and early fall. Thanks!!!

Where are you planning to put the table? I'm a bit confused about the two pictures.

The table will go in the room that is now the kitchen. The second photo - see where the fridge is in the back - this is the opening to the new dining room.

Oh you are completely removing the kitchen. I tihnk you could get away with having a skinnier table, but it would still be tight. I would build in a banquet on the wall across from the window. and then have chairs on the other side. It would give people more room to walk behind the chairs.

Not sure what your style or budget is, but this one is beautiful.

This one is simpler, but very nice.

Most have the banquet built-in, but some use a stand-alone piece for the bench, which can be really cool and likely cheaper.

Whoa! I never considered this. Looks cool though. Do you think it is too much like a diner - i like the second one a lot! Keep the ideas coming! Thank you so much!!!

I've seen them done in a lot of houses. Since I don't know your style, you could search Houzz photos for "banquet". There are tons of pictures of them done very well. The materials you use will play a big part in not making it look like a diner. So no red vinyl ;)

Not trying to play spelling police but the term you would be looking for is banquette. If you do consider that option, keep the bench side short enough so that 2 people can sit there. No one wants to be the third person in the center who needs to get out during the meal! I would also be sure there's back padding as well that is slightly angled for comfortable seating.

Be sure the seat is deep enough as well-at least 16".

Ah you're right. Thank you for the correction.

You're welcome Emily. Thanks for not thinking I was being a spelling snob :)
