I've noticed that a lot of people like to sit down when putting on shoes, especially in a home where people take their shoes off near the door.

If you put a table there to just look pretty, then I find that pointless and without function. If it's a table that stores your mail and other things, then maybe that.

Hi Sally, if you use a contemporary bench or colourful stools in front of glass can brighten up the entrance.

I would find a table more useful than a bench, and yes we take our shoes off inside. I keep a tray for shoes under the table. I keep a lamp on the table with tray for keys, mail, etc. Great for setting things down when you are coming in or going out.

Consider a more narrow console table of lighter weight design/construction. Given the light and airy colors of the hallway walls, trim and flooring, lighter colors and patterns will brighten the space, and allow the entrance to flow into the home. Give thought to a narrower, and lighter patterned rug, tall accents on the new table, and artwork or perhaps even a metal framed large mirror above your gorgeous new table! I would always include a sculpture on the table, being that I am a sculptor. LOL. Wish you a wonderful transformation!
