I like a clean, uncluttered look. Consider finger pulls. They allow you to open doors and drawers without leaving fingerprints, a good comprise between no pulls and visually busy hardware. We used these by Berenson and are very happy with them.

you need something or the paint will first get grotty and then wear off where a pull ought to be. (do you wash and dry your hands every time before you open a cabinet door when you are cooking dinner? me neither).

Cabinets must have pulls acid from fingers will wear off the finish otherwise. Your cabinets are very traditional. I wouldn't get and hardware that is overly modern like finger pulls or stainless steel bar pulls.

I know those bar pulls are notoriously popular but they are terrible pocket catchers! Consider something that doesn't have an open end.

I think something around 7" or so would be nice. For the drawers maybe in the 3"-4".
