You just expressed the concept that the garage door "pops" and that is not what you want. You want it to recede and the entry to pop. You definitely need to remove the fan detail from the garage. Usually those are just inserts that can be removed and replaced with another design. Without seeing the window style I can't determine if the shutters should stay or go. I would take out the overgrown bushes and hedges first so we can evaluate the personality of your hip roof ranch and determine where you should go with it.

I was plan on removing the fan detail and just leaving it without any dividers. I'll send a photo. I was planning on painting the black gutters and the fascia ivory. What do you think about that? I coud do black windows or ivory windows. Thanks!

Laura, perhaps do the landscaping, or at least trim everything back so we can actually see the house! I like the idea of black and ivory. black windows are currently the rage.

If you do that, I think I might leave the natural wood door. it lends some 'warmth' to the space.

make sure you do pink/white/ chartreuse color flowers/plants. it's a great accent to the black and white

I can't see any downspouts, but they should be camouflaged into the brick color. I'm anxious to see what you have once the landscaping is gone!

I would paint thr garage door the same as the siding and leave all the downspouts, fascia and trim the sam color as the siding since IMO none of those should be a pop at all. As for the door I think we need to see the whole facade after the bushes are gone and IMO these houses never suit shutters.

Here is a close up of the front door with the walk removed. I'm leaning toward white gutters and trim for contrast. I really don't like the black gutters.. The door will probably be replaced. There are only two windows facing the street and the ones in back are new and white so I'm leaning toward white windows.

White gutters will look like cheap one-size-fits-all in a flip with a gray roof. Use a charcoal gray gutter (matching the roof) with downspouts that match the brick after it's been washed.

Definitely have the gutters match the roof. The garage door looks better with the new glass. I would paint it to match the siding.

someone else on here had an almost identical house from the front. she had her little front area fenced in w/the brick walls and a gate in between them. same color brick, everything. Do you have a front window off to the left surround in brick, and is it round?

Please plant a bunch of flowers in the light post circle....
impatiens, begonias, daisies, or whatever will make it through the end of the year in the zone where you live.
I add my vote to painting the garage door to match the brick after the window dividers are removed.

do not put white gutters on that house. they will look terrible. the gutters on now are perfect because you don't notice them.. you don't want gutters to pop.

You've been hard at it, I can see. Agree with above about gutter color. Pressure wash before you pick any paint so you're seeing the true color of the brick for matching. Paint is always the last job in a reno, as you probably know.

I took the shutters off the window. The house is getting pressure washed and a new front walk is getting put in. The trim and downspouts are already the color of the brick which is almond. I could just paint them the same color (almond) but I feel like the trim needs to be ivory to match the garage and to dress up the house a bit. I think the black gutters look bad, however they do match the roof. I personally just don't like black gutters on this house. I need to decide what color windows (black, ivory, almond or white) The post light circle is getting sodded. The front door will be either a deep charcoal which will probably look black from the street or natural wood. I could do natural wood shutters as well. The front of the house faces north so there isn't sun on the front of the house.

The house is looking so much better. Don’t forget to replace light fixtures on the house and garage, brick mailbox, and if the power washing isn’t really good I’d paint the brick. How about taking the dated wing brick walls from front and enlarge the entrance with stones or your choice, and make a charming sitting area with colorful plants surrounding. That should be the focal point. Garage door should not stand out, it should blend in with the house to elongate your home. If you don’t like black shutters, you could paint them to match the brick but not stark white. Someone else said white looks cheap, I agree. I don’t have an idea about the crazy sideways shutter under the window in the front. Can’t see enough of the brickwork to get an idea. Good luck. It will look great when your done. Thanks Jan, I definitely plan to replace the light fixtures and mailbox. The wing walls need to stay because removing them will be expensive. I think they give the courtyard some definition and hope they look a lot better once they're clean. There is a stoop in front which I plan to add seating to. Unfortunately it is too high to cover with bricks. I am putting in a brick walkway today and landscaping next week. The shutter under the front window is a design on the siding which will hopefully be removed today as well. I'm now contemplating a wood door and wood shutters. The door is actually new but I don't like it. I want the house to look transitional or modern. I need to decide on white, ivory or black windows.

No shutters please. They are not appropriate for any of the windows, and will likely not work for new ones either. Double wide windows never take shutters and sliding windows don't either. Anxious to see the true color of the brick. It appears quite gray in the latest photo. Cleaning the brick will help you decide on window color. I'm guessing black may look good.

Gutters aren't accessories that need to be highlighted. They should blend in to their background.

Here is is with new landscaping and a new walkway. Hard to take a good photo of the front because the front faces north. True color of the brick is almond. Back view. Should I paint the brick grey and go with white windows as they started in the back or go with black windows. Trim color will be to match the garage door- White Dove.

no shutters. once you get the new windows, it will look so much better. you could even do the bronze tone if you don't like the black. I just think black and white, wood accents and a turquoise door would look stunning. if you could do your little courtyard in a black and white cement tile, even better!

Much improved. I would remove the nested rectangles below the front window or paint them the same color as the siding they are attached to. Right now the rectangles are what the eye is drawn to immediately.

I would keep it natural with rich wood doors including the garage door. That plain white is taking away from the house. Its the first thing you see and its distracting and unattractive. Hard to tell color of house but a white house with the rich wood accent would look amazing I think. I'd paint the window trim black to give it some depth. That weird design on the front under the window is dated. Possibly put a nice rich wood accent over it to match doors or just paint it all white and put a wood window box unde the window. Same width as the window. Just mt thoughts though. I'm sure it will be beautiful when your done
