Trying to match or replace old hinges...help!

We are remodeling the kitchen in our 1970's home. The hinges and pulls have us absolutely at a halt. The local company we have worked with says I can't get the same hinge in any color but the antique brass that we currently have. Additionally, she says there are no good choices in a nice modern looking cabinet pull that would match the existing hinge color. I have attached photos of the hinges both color and style...does anyone have any advice or believe that I would be able to find the hinge in a different color (we prefer black or ORB)...if not finding the hinge in a different color-can someone help me find a 3'' handle that matches and isn't ugly? We aren't going too awfully modern...keeping existing cabinets obviously. Thanks so much!

Rub n' buff "wax metallic finish" lasts surprisingly well on hinges.

Look at Rockler to see if they have other finishes.
I found a hinge there that my cabinet maker could not find.

Since those appear to be surface mounted, have you thought about just replacing them with concealed cup hinges? Then you could do any hardware you like.

Luke with Scherr's here. Have you considered just removing the hinges and using an appropriate black spray paint meant for metal to spray them with?

This is outside of the scope of what Scherr's does. But, when doing personal projects such as boxes and chests, I've had to spray paint hardware to get it the color I've wanted. It seems to get the job done and saves you money. I can't say that the finish will last as long as an industrial grade finish, but it's also quite easy to do if the quality of the finish starts to fade again over time.

We are living in my dh's childhood home while building and also gave the 70s era kitchen a hinge and pull update. Someone on this site helped me find the hinges after I was also told I wouldn't likely find them by a cabinetmaker in town. Take one of the Hinges off and see if it's Amerock and show a good pic of it here. Looks similar to our old hinges.

I can't tell from the photo if your hinge is "full wrap" or "partial wrap", and what your overlay is. Take a look at this guide and then pick the one closest to your hinges. There are several options in black or ORB.

Thanks everyone! They do not have a brand name on them. I can see now that they are partial wrap and 1/4'' overlay.

salex: I think one of them that you sent me looks like it might work. So hard to tell though and hate to order and have it not work!

Yes we've considered spray painting but I really would rather not have to deal with the upkeep when they eventually fade!

Thanks for the recommendation on the rub n buff!

Glad to hear that others were told they wouldn't be able to find match and did.
